Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts.
The blogosphere, including some conservative and libertarian haters of Palin, erupted in joy, with loads of snark and derision directed at Palin.

US Housing Crisis Is Now Worse Than Great Depression

It's official: The housing crisis that began in 2006 and has recently entered a double dip is now worse than the Great Depression.

Prices have fallen some 33 percent since the market began its collapse, greater than the 31 percent fall that began in the late 1920s and culminated in the early 1930s, according to Case-Shiller data.

The news comes as the Federal Reserve considers whether the economy has regained enough strength to stand on its own and as unemployment remains at a still-elevated 9.1 percent, throwing into question whether the recovery is real.

"The sharp fall in house prices in the first quarter provided further confirmation that this housing crash has been larger and faster than the one during the Great Depression," Paul Dales, senior economist at Capital Economics in Toronto, wrote in research for clients. More here:

Some unusual solar readings, including fading sunspots and weakening magnetic activity near the poles, could be indications that our sun is preparing to be less active in the coming years.

The results of three separate studies seem to show that even as the current sunspot cycle swells toward the solar maximum, the sun could be heading into a more-dormant period, with activity during the next 11-year sunspot cycle greatly reduced or even eliminated.

The results of the new studies were announced today (June 14) at the annual meeting of the solar physics division of the American Astronomical Society, which is being held this week at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

If the models prove accurate and the trends continue, the implications could be far-reaching.

As any addict can tell you, the first step is admitting you have a problem. Perhaps there's hope for Markos after all. First he acknowledges that he was wrong, then he expresses feelings of humiliation and disgrace (and perhaps even embarrassment?) and finally says he wants to be a healthier person. We all know that you can't be a Liberal and do any of those things so maybe he's come to his senses. Of course, we're going to have to wait and see. Libs are famous for making sweeping proclamations about self-improvement and then forgetting all about it once other Libs stop paying attention.

Those who bemoan the Edwards prosecution should look back to the Bush administration.

The “I may be an SOB, but that does not mean I am a criminal” defense is getting worn out lately. First it was Blago in Chicago, and now John Edwards is giving it a try. The problem for them is that often, the jury concludes that the defendant is both.

However, I am sure that Edwards feels that if anybody can pull this off before a jury, he can. It might well work for him, in part because he does not seem to suffer the debilitating effects of embarrassment or shame that would hamper most people under similar circumstances. More here:

Just Following Orders.

The Nazi defense of "we were just following orders" has been examined to death. It is used as an example when debating anyone who is accused of doing something illegal, immoral, or evil because "that's no defense at all- you should have done the right thing no matter how much pressure was put upon you". Meanwhile, many people do things they would not otherwise do because they were more afraid of their superiors than they were of society.

Of course, in the case of the Nazi's of WWII, society approved of what they were doing. Civilians claimed that they had no idea what was going on but frankly, I don't buy it anymore than I buy that "peaceful" Muslims don't know what radical Islamists are doing. I suspect that they turn a blind eye because net net, they believe it improves their standard of living and "they're not going after Muslims" so...

Anyway, it's my argument that these people who were "just following orders" were actually loving the ELS out of torturing, abusing, and killing people who they didn't like for any number of reasons- real or fabricated.

1. A certificate of recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation, “thanking us for our efforts to prevent further tree deaths”

2. This handmade holiday card.

Adds David: “This person obviously put a lot of work into carefully drawing and writing it; the artwork and penmanship are immaculate. If only they’d put as much effort into asking us why we were having the trees removed.”

9 Months Later

John decided to go skiing with his buddy, Keith. So they loaded up John's minivan and headed north.

After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night

'I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed,' she explained. 'I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house.'

'Don't worry,' John said. 'We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light.' The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night.

Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way.

They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.

But about nine months later, John got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend.

He dropped in on his friend Keith and asked, 'Keith, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?' 'Yes, I do.' Said Keith.

'Did you, ER, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?'

'Well, um, yes!,' Keith said, a little embarrassed about being found out, 'I have to admit that I did.'

'And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?'

Keith's face turned beet red and he said, 'Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did.' 'Why do you ask?'

'She just died and left me everything.'

Liberalism arguably suffers from an over-reliance on emotional intelligence while eschewing rational intelligence. The Left has been criticized for disrupting the free market, disregarding earned success and even siphoning wealth from the upper class to distribute to others, encouraging these people to further rely on handouts instead of on themselves.  Those who engage in this behavior, without using their rational intelligence, thus lack compassion, becoming jealous of success, and do not live an ethical life.  To live an ethical life, it is incumbent upon them to do what they can to aid the poor, the weak, and those who lack the self-confidence necessary for self-reliance, without forcing others to do it.

SEABROOK, N.H. — Sarah Palin’s bus is plastered with a mock-up of the U.S. Constitution. But her entourage — both the three-vehicle motorcade that includes the bus and the smaller, two-SUV version she uses for smaller events — hasn’t been very respectful of traffic laws.

They speed. They run red lights and stop signs. They make last-second lane changes to get off the highway, sometimes without signaling.

So do the reporters following them.

Journalists in the caravan trailing her “One Nation” tour bus describe the experience as harrowing, a rolling menace careening up the East Coast in hot pursuit of the former Alaska governor who declined to provide any advance itinerary of her tour over six days on the road. More here:

These jourrrrrnalists are so indignant aren't they?  I mean, here they are following her around to try to make her look as stupid as they possibly can and she's not making it easier on them ... EVEN THOUGH SHE COULD ... CAN YOU IMAGINE THIS?

Allow me to introduce you to the totally unbiased and objective jourrrrnalist, Martin Bashir of MSNBC.  He's only interested in getting you the all the facts of the circumstances so you can think what you will.  He would never ... and I mean NEVER deign to slant the "news."

Quothe he: It all sounds like a wonderful commitment to American values and American history, but it's nothing of the kind. In fact, the whole thing could be in breach of a federal law because the United States Flag Code establishes important rules for the use and display of the stars and stripes, the flag of the United States. Under standards of respect and etiquette, it's made clear that the flag of the United States should never be used for any advertising purpose whatsoever. Yet that's precisely what Sarah Palin is doing. She's using the flag of the United States for her own financial purposes. She drapes herself in the stars and stripes and makes millions of dollars in the process.  (More here comrades) Yeow, watch out or some of the contempt will drip out of his mouth and onto the laps of his fellow communists jourrrrnalists.  Yes, yes, Martin -- the bus tour is actually "in breach of federal law."  Awesome conclusion drawn by a person who is "proven" superior at understanding complexity.

Doesn't this sound like the birthers to you?  Instead of arguing issues, he has to pick insignificant things to talk about?  What about Obama suddenly deciding to wear an American flag pin?  I guess that doesn't count, right, jackass?

That aside, why all the hatred for Sarah out of the mainstream media?  Has she announced she's running?  Does she give the media an itinerary? (Answer: No.)  Then why are they following her like idiots?  Why trash her and run her down every chance you get?  Why not ignore her if she's so stupid and has no chance etc?  ... Reasons?  Anyone?  Bueller?

Also, look at this asshat ... just LOOK at him.  He's giving you the look of condescending contempt.  This shows you he knows what he's talking about and you better get in line.  Don't question him or he'll make you look like a fool ... and to a lib, it's better to just stay in the dark than risk that ... to a lib, appearing smart is "mission critical."  It's absolutely critical that everyone else thinks you're smart, never mind what you really think of yourself ... you can hide that part.

Abusive government tries to steal man's freedom

Los Angeles county officials are demanding that a creative homeowner tear down a 20,000-square-foot domicile he calls "Phonehenge West"--or face up to seven years in jail.

Former telephone technician Alan Kimble Fahey began building the structure three decades ago in Acton, the Los Angeles Times reports. Fahey, who christened the project "Phonehenge" because it sits atop pilings modified from phone utility poles, says he intends to turn the compound into a museum.

The labyrinthine network of buildings where Fahey, his wife, and teenage son live even includes a 70-foot tower covered in Italian stained-glass windows, and a barn. Fahey uses a "motorized cart" to get between buildings, an earlier report said.

The paper describes the compound as "a hodgepodge of reddish buildings braced with scores of utility poles and steel beams and connected by bridges and ramps." Inside, the castle is filled with more than 20,000 books, and a yurt--though Fahey and his wife sleep on a single-sized water bed and cook on a tiny stove. Tourists come from all over to gaze at the creation, Fahey says, and Glamour magazine even staged a photo shoot there.

Fahey has attracted popular support for his labor of love. More than 1,000 people have liked a Facebook page called "Save Phonehenge West." And a national group that opposes "abusive" building codes, F.A.C.E.OFF (Fight Against Code Enforcement Office), is also backing Fahey. The compound has been admiringly featured on home design web sites.

A jury began hearing the county's case against Fahey last week: He is charged with 14 criminal misdemeanor counts, including unlawful use of land. L.A. County deputy District Attorney David Campbell told the paper that Fahey repeatedly ignored city officials' warnings that he was violating multiple municipal building safety and fire codes and thinks he is above the law.

Gotta love this.  They're out to get him and they're going to succeed.  The judge will tell the jury they MUST find him guilty if they find he broke one of their laws.  Why have a jury then?  Perhaps they haven't heard of "jury nullification."
