Times Sure Have Changed.

Here's a small sample of vintage magazine ads that I suspect would somehow not fly today.

"How soon is too soon? Not soon enough. Laboratory tests over the last few years have proven that babies who start drinking soda during that early formative period have a much higher chance of gaining acceptance and 'fitting in' during those awkward pre-teen and teen years. So, do yourself a favor. Do your child a favor. Start them on a strict regimen of sodas and other sugary carbonated beverages right now, for a lifetime of guaranteed happiness."
I mean, good Lord. I could write a book about what's wrong with that ad and that copy- both morally and legally.

From Weasel Zippers.

Chuck (Charles) responds to all the abuse in comments. down, everyone. The flag was used by the hegemonists from Tennessee when they went down there and stole Texas from Mexico.
So, even though it might not have been Nazi, it was racist. So there, you Christianist, right wing, Obama and Democratic-hating, gay bashing traitors who I am now happy I no longer associate with. Racist flag, Nazi flag, what's the difference? It's why I broke with the right. These darn flags of the right confuse the hell out of me. I could have sworn that snake flag was carried by Conferates. Or maybe Nazis. I'm pretty sure it was one of the two."

Oh dear. That entire paragraph was cut and pasted as it was typed. There sure is a lot of hatred pent up in that fella's pea brain.

ANOTHER UPDATE (From Weasel Zippers):

UPDATE: After this post was linked by a host of other blogs I figured Chuckles would be forced to defend himself. As always, the Husky Ponytailed Blogger plays the victim card.
In the post to which Reynolds links, “Weasel Zippers” took a screenshot of a commentI posted here at LGF, asking if a flag seen in a tea partyvideo might be a neo-Nazi flag — and then ignored the comments that followed minutes later in the same thread, in which I clearly concluded that the flag was a Tennessee flag.
Naturally he missed the entire point of this post, which was to mock him for seeing Nazis and racists behind every Tea Party bush. All he had to do was a two second Google search of "red flag with three stars" instead of making an ass of himself for the millionth time (thanks JCM).
And why did he drag InstaGlenn into it? Hoping for a link to boost his ever sagging site stats?
And as Robert Spencer points out:
Weasel Zippers has found the comment above, in which Johnson says that he is "fairly sure" that the Tennessee state flag is a neo-Nazi emblem. Johnson himself is seething and whining about this: "the comments that followed minutes later in the same thread...I clearly concluded that the flag was a Tennessee flag."
Well, that's mighty generous and perspicacious of him, but he only did it after speculating about the Tennessee flag's alleged resemblance to various neo-Nazi insignia:

NBC Nightly News Showcases Devotional Obama as Lauer Cracks: 'Spirituality Meets High-Tech!': "
Out of the lengthy interview sessions Matt Lauer conducted with President Barack Obama which were played back over the first hour-and-half of Tuesday's Today show, Brian Williams decided to highlight on Nightly News only Obama's explanation for “why his family hasn't found a church to attend yet in their new adopted home of Washington, D.C.” Obama's reasoning satisfied Lauer, who quipped: “It's a spirituality meets high-tech! That's pretty good.”

As Lauer and Obama strolled down the main White House corridor, Obama blamed how he and Michelle would be “very disruptive to services,” but he's taken advantage of how “there was a prayer circle of pastors from across the country who during the campaign would, would say a prayer for me or send a devotional.” So:

We've kept that habit up and, and it's a wonderful group because it's a mix of some very conservative pastors, some very liberal pastors, but all who, you know, pray for me and Michelle and, and the girls and, and I get a daily devotional on my BlackBerry which is a, is a wonderful thing.

To which, an impressed Lauer approved: “It's a spirituality meets high-tech! That's pretty good.”

Wonder how “conservative” are those “conservative pastors”?

NB post by Geoffrey Dickens about Tuesday's Today show: “Lauer to Obama: How Do You 'Move On' from the Vitriol, Sniping and Threats?

From the Tuesday, March 30 NBC Nightly News:

BRIAN WILLIAMS: And an interesting note from the White House. In a wide-ranging exclusive interview on political and personal matters, Matt Lauer asked the President, with Easter weekend approaching, why his family hasn't found a church to attend yet in their new adopted home of Washington, D.C.

MATT LAUER: As of yet, I haven't heard that you've settled on an exact church. Where do you stand on that and how important a decision is it for your family?
BARACK OBAMA: You know what? What we've decided for now is not to join a single church. And the reason is is because Michelle and I have realized we are very disruptive to services. [edit jump] And in the meantime, what we've done, there was a prayer circle of pastors from across the country who during the campaign would, would say a prayer for me or send a devotional. And we've kept that habit up and, and it's a wonderful group because it's a mix of some very conservative pastors, some very liberal pastors, but all who, you know, pray for me and Michelle and, and the girls and, and I get a daily devotional on my BlackBerry which is a, is a wonderful thing.

LAUER: It's a spirituality meets high-tech! That's pretty good.

WILLIAMS: We've posted the full interview Matt conducted with the President on our Web site

Let me get this straight......we're trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.

What the hell could possibly go wrong?

FOX NEWS isn't a real "News Organization"

By calling President Obama a racist and branding progressivism a "cancer," Beck has achieved a lightning-rod status that is unusual even for the network owned by Rupert Murdoch. And that, in turn, has complicated the channel's efforts to neutralize White House criticism that Fox is not really a news organization.

More than 200 companies have joined a boycott of Beck's program, making it difficult for Fox to sell ads. The time has instead been sold to smaller firms offering such products as Kaopectate, Carbonite, 1-800-PetMeds and Goldline International. A handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether.  More at the washingtonpost:

Gee, I wonder where I can find a full list of this "handful" of leftist companies?  I need to see the list.  It's not like I didn't know APPLE was full of communists, I just want to see the rest in case there are any surprises.  Nah, never mind, I don't give a damn.  I can pretty much predict who they are anyway. The communists are insisting these companies boycott FOX and the companies are listening, that's all that matters.  It's funny though ... the lefties don't have any money to spend anyway so that isn't the motivating factor.  The motivating factor is these companies believe in leftist ideals ... period.

Lucky for APPLE the media has convinced people with money that they need to use APPLE products to be cool ... you know ... since being cool and hip are critical to lefties.

Meanwhile, these same companies don't have any problem at all advertising on the major news networks, or CNN, MSNBC, NPR and the like.  NOooooo.  No problem there, those are REAL news organizations.  Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Ed Shultz ... these are true jourrrrnalists and never say anything controversial.

I can understand a company might want to steer away from advertising on a controversial show like Glen Beck ... what I can't understand is the justification to  steer clear of FOX altogether.  Actually, never mind, I DO understand it and I explained it above.

Remember the SWINE FLU?

GENEVA, March 29 - A group of independent experts will review how the H1N1 pandemic has been handled to ensure that the next global health emergency is dealt with better, a top World Health Organisation (WHO) official said on Monday.

The H1N1 influenza outbreak, which began in April last year, was marked by controversies over whether the WHO and public health authorities had exaggerated the risks of H1N1 and created unnecessary alarm by declaring it a 'pandemic'.

The WHO has also been criticised for its pandemic alert system that focuses on geographical spread of the outbreak rather than its severity, and on alleged conflicts of interests between health officials and experts and vaccine makers. More at asianews:

Yes, they're going to "investigate."  Here's the call, cheeseburgers ... these jackasses want more money and power, that's it.  They're going to scream PANDEMIC every single time they possibly can so they can get more money and power.

It's one of those organizations with the word "WORLD" in its title.  It's corrupt, it's anti-USA, it costs us kazillions of dollars.

They got us though.  We all believed them because we remember how terrible it was when we all lost family members from the last dangerous and deadly pandemic - the BIRD FLU.

All geniuses know "weather is NOT climate"

Bold is mine:
It seems the long and chilly winter has taken its toll on climate change sensibilities despite the fact that weather has nothing to do with climate.

The latest figure is a clear drop from the 62 percent of Germans who said they were scared of such changes just in autumn 2006.

Many people have little faith in the information and prognosis of climate researchers with a third questioned in the survey not giving them much credence. This is thought to be largely due to mistakes and exaggerations recently discovered in a report of the intergovernmental panel on climate change, the IPCC.

Last summer the glacier on Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitz in Bavaria, was covered over with plastic sheeting to try to protect it from warm rain which threatened to accelerate its melting.  More at thelocal:

Exactly ... "weather has nothing to do with climate" (says the genius jourrrrnalist - as he ever so gently reminds his/her idiot readers this is a FACT.)

Yet, these people are SO STUPID they actually think weather DOES have something to do with climate.   CAN YOU IMAGINE THE STUPIDITY OF THESE PEOPLE?  Perhaps they  believed your premise, until ... you know ... the weather BECAME the climate.

That is to say, how can you have global warming when the weather is constantly cold?  At what point does a true genius, such as this jourrrrnalist, give up on man-made global warming? After a year?  After 10 years?  After 100 years?  After 1,000 years?  After all, 100,000 years is the average time between ice ages, right?  There's no good reason to lose faith after a measly 20-30,000 years.

How many scandals in the "climate community" will it take before this genius jourrrrrnalist starts to think he/she's been had?  Answer: It doesn't matter.  Facts do not matter to religious zealots.  The only thing that will EVER change his mind is when the "scientists" tell him it was actually global cooling that caused the global warming.  Being a true genius, THAT he will buy with all his heart and soul.

Something tells me geniuses like this jourrrrrnalist will still be harping on global warming when  their shadows freeze to the sidewalk. Meanwhile, the jourrrrnalist can't believe how stupid these people are and SOMEHOW I was able to ferret this fact out of his totally forthright and objective "reporting" ... reporting that I am supposed to believe since he/she has no stake in the situation and is simply reporting the facts.

Oh, and also ... covering a glacier with plastic sheets ... HAHAHAHAHA, smart move ...
I mean, seriously, ... dumb people would NOT cover a glacier with plastic sheets ... right? Everyone knows the answer is to paint it white.

MORE ON TODAY’S CLIMATE OF HATRED AND VIOLENCE: Andrew Breitbart Describes Unhinged Harry Reid Supp…

This is particularly amusing considering the Left's outrage over Palin's "inciting violence" because she called for Tea Partiers to "reload" rather than retreat. (More here). Meanwhile and without mention by the MSM, anti-Republicans are actually violent. It's no wonder those people support terrorism. They are themselves terrorists.
Andrew Breitbart Describes Unhinged Harry Reid Supporters on the Attack. I hope that those Democratic politicians and media figures who have incited this sort of violence against the tea parties with their extremist rhetoric will try to rein in their violent followers before their violent rhetoric produces still more political violence.

UPDATE: John Hinderaker: More Thoughts On Liberal Violence.

We talked about this on our radio show today, and several callers reminded us of a particularly sorry episode of liberal violence that, for some reason, has not gotten much attention: the 2008 Republican convention in St. Paul.

I attended the convention and remember the terrorist acts that were carried out by anti-Republican protesters very well. They threw bricks through the windows of buses, sending elderly convention delegates to the hospital. They dropped bags of sand off highway overpasses onto vehicles below. Fortunately, no one was killed.

These were anti-Bush and anti-Republican protesters. Is it a stretch to think that some of them, at least, may have been inspired by over-the-top, hateful attacks on the Bush administration by Democratic Congressmen, DNC Chairman Howard Dean, Michael Moore, who was a guest of honor at the Democrats’ own convention, various show business personalities, and many other leading liberal figures? I don’t think so. We haven’t seen that sort of hate campaign since the Democrats went after Abraham Lincoln. It seems unlikely that none of the “protesters” who tried to commit murder were inspired by those liberal voices.

Yet, hardly anyone seems to be aware of the violence that took place in 2008. At most, the story was treated with a ho-hum attitude in the press. For some reason, political violence was not a concern less than two years ago. Yet today, we can hardly imagine what would happen if a group of tea partiers were to drop sandbags off a highway overpass, trying to kill motorists below. Liberal reporters’ heads would explode. Yet this is exactly what anti-Republican Party protesters did in 2008, and no one cared. To my knowledge, not a single Democratic politician condemned this anti-Republican violence or attempted in any way to distance the Democratic Party from it.

Keep that in mind next time you hear a Democrat whining about the Republican effort to “fire Nancy Pelosi.”

This Must be Important - I Hear It Often

Last year, the Chosen One picked his March Madness Bracket almost perfectly - he must be the smartest guy ever! This year - not so much. I guess the bloom is off the rose - or he really ain't that prescient.

Obama comes up empty with Final Four picks

NEW YORK — The president's bracket is a bust.

President Barack Obama went 0 for 2 in the NCAA tournament Saturday when Kentucky and Kansas State lost in the regional finals, knocking out his two remaining picks for the Final Four.

In his bracket, Obama predicted that Kansas, Villanova, Kentucky and Kansas State would reach the Final Four. Kansas and Villanova were upset in the second round, then Kentucky and Kansas State went down Saturday.

Kentucky, the top seed in the East Regional, was beaten 73-66 by second-seeded West Virginia. Kansas State, the No. 2 seed in the West Regional, lost 63-56 to No. 5 Butler.

Obama's bracket ranked 1,154,792nd on the Web site's leaderboard, putting him in the top 75.8 percent of users who entered picks.

The commander in chief also lost a Final Four pick in his women's bracket when top-seeded Tennessee lost to No. 4 Baylor 77-62 in the round of 16. Stanford, his Final Four pick for the Sacramento regional, routed fifth-seeded Georgia 73-36.

1984 has come and gone but NPR is still working on Newspeak

1984 has come and gone but NPR is still working on Newspeak: "

npr logo

National Progressive Radio is "evolving" the language

According to Media Matters, NPR has graciously decided to stop using the labels “Pro-Life” and “Pro-Choice” because people may mistakenly believe that the “Pro-Life” people are the good guys.

After kicking around other labels for Pro-Life like “Those anti-abortion bastards”, NPR settled on “Abortion rights supporter(s) or advocate(s)” and “abortion rights opponent(s)”. NPR really likes this term because “rights opponent(s)” sounds a lot more nefarious than “pro-life”.

For those of you who might be thinking or even hoping that this is a joke, the following is excerpted from memo by NPR Managing Editor David Sweeney:

NPR News is revising the terms we use to describe people and groups involved in the abortion debate.

This updated policy is aimed at ensuring the words we speak and write are as clear, consistent and neutral as possible. This is important given that written text is such an integral part of our work.

On the air, we should use “abortion rights supporter(s)/advocate(s)” and “abortion rights opponent(s)” or derivations thereof (for example: “advocates of abortion rights”). It is acceptable to use the phrase “anti-abortion”, but do not use the term “pro-abortion rights”.

NPR is reportedly still working on new phrases to describe conservatives and liberals. The most popular thus far are “closed-minded idiots” and “working hard to remake America as a godless, yet strangely beautiful society where everyone is equal except for leaders, who are far more equal than everyone else for obvious reasons [that's funny- I don't care who you are] ”.

We’ve decided to start calling NPR an “almost news agency” which sounds so much better than “freaking liberal zealots”.

The real question here is to ask why Liberals think that periodically changing the name of their lunatic ideas and groups changes anything but the name? Eventually, they're going to run out [I wish] of colorful ways of calling a Duck anything but a Duck. Wouldn't it be so much easier just to do the work rather than come up with creative ways around doing the work?

Nice Business You Got There, Shame If Anything Were to Happen to it

Nice Business You Got There, Shame If Anything Were to Happen to it: "

The Dramacrats are furious that companies like AT&T, John Deere, and Caterpillar have reported that ObamaCare is going to cost them hundreds of millions of dollars to implement. They are angry that Medtronics has said it may have to lay off hundreds of workers because of the new medical devices tax. (Hat Tip: AoSHQ)

The Dramacrat Politburo is issuing letters to the management of those companies, threatening to pull them into Washington for show trials hearings. They are demanding that these dissident capitalists turn over all records detailing how they arrived at the outrageous conclusion that... um... insurance is going to cost a lot more when Government mandates it to cover more people with more conditions.

The Washington Post Reminds You, All Criticism of the President Is Racist: "

To the unhinged, paranoid left --- America is but one short step away from imposing Jim Crow, if not re-instituting slavery. And any criticism of the president's policies is proof that white conservatives yearn to put all African-Americans back in chains.

Colbert King lets his unhinged, paraonoid, rat-crazy freak flag fly in the Washington Post.

The angry faces at Tea Party rallies are eerily familiar. They resemble faces of protesters lining the street at the University of Alabama in 1956 as Autherine Lucy, the school's first black student, bravely tried to walk to class. Those same jeering faces could be seen gathered around the Arkansas National Guard troopers who blocked nine black children from entering Little Rock's Central High School in 1957.

The faces were similar in that they had eyes, mouths, noses. But this is how crazy progressive logic works: 'If I can analogize a current event to something racist that happened in the past, it proves the current event is racist.' i.e. There was a crowd of people, They were protesting something. A crowd of people in 1956 protested something and they were racist. So, this crowd must be racist, too.

The real truth behind the Dramacrats charges of violence and racism is this:

Accusing their enemies of being violent racists is the only thing they've got. And the only thing their brain-dead base can understand. Hate sells.

Media breathlessly reports rock thrown thru Dem congressman’s window. Don’t mention that window is on 30th floor.: "

According to the Seattle Times, conservatives are running wild in the streets and the post-ObamaCare violence is spiraling out of control. The paper breathlessly reports on one case in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Protesters have been demonstrating at (Steve) Driehaus’ Ohio home, said Tim Mulvey, a spokesman for the anti-abortion Democrat who joined Stupak in voting for the health bill. A rock was thrown through the window of Driehaus’ Cincinnati office Sunday, and a death threat was phoned in to his Washington office a day later, Mulvey said.

“It’s getting out of hand,” Mulvey said.

Just one problem with the story. Driehaus office is on the 30th story of this building.

What an arm. We expect the evil conservative rock thrower to be contacted immediately by the Cincinnati Reds, signed to a ten year, $100 million contract, and made a starting pitcher.

When I first read the headline, I thought it said that Tea Party Supporters threw eggs. I always thought that was what Liberals and Democrats do. Of course, being not a Liberal, I investigated further and realized the truth:

Harry Reid Supporters Egg Tea Party Express Buses in Route
Supporters of Senator Harry Reid have just thrown eggs at the Tea Party Express bus caravan - striking at least one of the three buses (the red Tea Party Express bus) with multiple eggs.

About 35 Reid supporters had lined Highway 95 in front of the Nugget Casino in Searchlight where they were attempting a counter-demonstration the tens of thousands of tea party supporters who are gathering for the "Showdown in Searchlight."

Stealth Jihad
Shariah law dictates worldwide conversion to Islam, whatever it takes.
By Frank Gaffney, Jr. - April 1, 2010

That failure is the more worrisome since the current ideological menace is arguably more dangerous than any we have faced in the past, for two reasons. First, its adherents believe their mission of global conquest is divinely inspired. Second, they are here in the United States in significant numbers, not just a threat elsewhere around the world.

Perhaps the most important thing to understand about Shariah is that it is authoritative Islam, which presents itself as a complete way of life – cultural, political, military, social and religious,
all governed by the same doctrine. In other words, this comprehensive program not simply the agenda of extremists hunkered down in caves in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Neither can its directives be attributed to deviants hijacking Islam.

fri pins

Nice pins sorry no shoes just balls.

This is what happens when you get up for an early shift to go to work and forgot to post the regular pin shot.

Thursday, March 25, 2010

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the man.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

"Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. "I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning...... Today you voted."

ACORN - see ya later, jackasses

The national group ACORN is folding, an official there, Kevin Whelan, said in an emailed statement:

The ACORN Association Board met on Sunday March 21 and approved a set of steps to responsibly manage the process of bringing its operations to a close over the coming months. These include:

* Closing ACORN’s remaining state affiliates and field offices by April 1st; and
* Developing a plan to resolve all outstanding debts, obligations and other issues.
More at Politico:

Of course, all they'll do is reorganize under another name.  You know ... because no one will be the wiser.  It's not like the media will let the public know.  I doubt the media even lets you know that ACORN folded in the first place.  They believe in letting the sheep quietly graze ... unless capitalism a wolf rears its ugly head.

First guy to get busted due to the wireless age

He does look evil, doesn’t he?

Hawley Harvey Crippen had fled for America by the time Scotland Yard discovered his wife’s torso under the brick floor of his London house.

But they sent out a warning, and the captain of the SS Montrose thought he recognized the fugitive aboard his ship. He asked his wireless telegraphist to send a message to the British authorities: “Have strong suspicions that Crippen London cellar murderer and accomplice are among saloon passengers. Mustache taken off growing beard. Accomplice dressed as boy. Manner and build undoubtedly a girl.”

Chief Inspector Walter Dew overtook the Montrose in a faster liner and boarded her in the St. Lawrence River disguised as a pilot. When introduced to Crippen, he said (resoundingly, one hopes), “Good morning, Dr. Crippen. Do you know me? I’m Chief Inspector Dew from Scotland Yard.”

Crippen hesitated, then said, “Thank God it’s over. The suspense has been too great. I couldn’t stand it any longer.”

Crippen’s mistress was acquitted, but he was hanged in 1910, the first criminal in history captured by the aid of wireless.

See STOP. (Found it at The Futility Closet:)

Don't make my mistake with your Hydrangeas

So last year I pruned my wife's Hydrangeas in the winter and when the summer came she had no flowers.  Ok, this was a mistake.  You know how I remembered they had no flowers all the way until now?  Cuz I was reminded about it every single day last summer and SOMEHOW it stuck in my melon.  She wouldn't let me prune them this winter ... quothe she: "they only flower on 'old wood.'" (When she said that, the obvious joke entered my mind and I quickly rejected it but you go right ahead -- feel free.)

So I didn't prune them and, LO, they're really springing to life this spring.

Anyway, I figured I'd better get to capiskying the pruning method for these in order to prevent any future harping, carping, and whining daily reminders. Bold is mine.

By , Bigleaf, Mophead or Florist Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) is sometimes easy to recognize because it is the one whose flower color changes with the soil pH: blue in acid soil, pink in alkaline. There are a few varieties that simply stay white, making it much harder to categorize from the flowers. The leaves are coarsely serrated and glossy, dark green. H. macrophylla also include the Lacecap hydrangeas, whose flowers look like a circle of unopened buds surrounded by open petals. In reality, the unopened buds are the fertile flowers with pollen and the outer flashy petals are sterile and are just there to attract bees. This is true of most hydrangeas, so don’t become frustrated waiting for all the buds to open.

Bigleaf type hydrangea set their flower buds at the ends of the upright or lateral branches, during late summer to early fall. Pruning Bigleaf hydrangea in the spring or even late fall, after the buds have been set, will remove the flower buds and any chance of getting flowers that season.

Bigleaf hydrangea should be pruned as soon as the flowers have faded. You should begin to see new growth coming in from the base of the plant. To keep the plant vigorous, selectively prune out the dead and weaker stems, both old and new. Don’t prune out all the old wood, since this is what will keep flowering as the new growth matures. Clinton punches the Goracle in the Gutacle

Excerpts from this article:

Former President Bill Clinton made a return to Washington’s public life, speaking to the annual Gridiron Dinner as a stand-in for President Barack Obama and poking some fun at himself, his Oval Office successors and the press corps before getting in pitches for passage of health legislation and aid to Haiti.

Mr. Clinton said he suggested to President Obama that he appear before the journalists assembled at the dinner anyway, to pitch his health bill again, but then added, in a reference to the senior status of journalists in the Gridiron Club, that he realized “they’re so old they won’t be helped by what’s in there.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted he was speaking on the night before the start of spring, “otherwise known to Al Gore as proof of global warming.”

Ha ha - good one, Billy.

How come when a reasonable person takes reasonable precautions to avoid a reasonable perception of danger the MSM reports that they're "scared"?

For weeks now, the Texas Rangers have been warning people not to go to Mexico border towns due to escalating violence between drug cartels in these towns. I'm guessing that smart people are heeding the warnings of reliable sources.

It's as if you decide against riding home with a drunk driver after a night of driving and some doofus in the backseat says, "C'mon- what are ya, scared?". No- not scared just not stupid.

Goin' Down in a Blaze of Glory... Leprechaun Style.

A leprechaun bank robber and his getaway driver were killed in a shootout with police after a St Patrick’s Day raid in Tennessee.

The man, wearing a cape and green leprechaun hat, held up the First State Bank in Galatin, outside Nashville, on Wednesday as Irish people around the world celebrated their patron saint’s day.
Police said that the same man had held up a bank in Nashville three days before Christmas — dressed as Santa Claus.

Bradley Webb, a witness to the leprechaun raid, said yesterday that the suspect had first checked out the next-door Fifth-Third Bank, but left because he apparently decided it was too crowded.
“He had a long black cape or dress on, a fake black beard; probably a 2½ foot leprechaun hat,” Mr Webb told the TV station NewsChannel 5.

The robber then held up the First State Bank with a gun and ran out to his getaway car, a silver Toyota Corolla.

Bystanders gave chase and notified police who quickly caught up with the suspects’ car and the robbers opened fire. One police car was hit by several bullets.

Mr Webb, who was following the suspects’ car, said he heard about 20 shots. “It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever been in in my life,” he said.

The police chased the suspects to a field outside town where the duo ditched their car and fled on foot, leaving the leprechaun hat on the back seat.

As they ran, they turned and shot at pursuing officers, who returned fire.

“They were confronted by officers. They failed to drop their weapons and gunshots were exchanged,” said Sergeant Bill Storment, a police spokesman.

Melissa Orgain told NewsChannel 5: “It appeared that the police were trying to get out some people from the bushes in the area they had gone in. They had several dogs out. It was very noisy.”
Last night police identified the leprechaun bandit as David Cotton, 20, and his getaway driver as Jonathan Skinner, a student at Western Kentucky University.

The preliminary investigation suggested that Mr Skinner was shot by police but that the leprechaun robber killed himself.

Police confirmed that the leprechaun bandit was also responsible for December’s robbery at the SunTrust bank in Nashville.

Witnesses said that the Santa bank robber, sporting a fake beard and moustache, had told them jokingly that he needed money to pay his elves.

How... how unfortunate.

Paul Warner Powell was executed Thursday night in the murder and
attempted rape of Stacie Reed, 16.
Paul Warner Powell was executed Thursday night in the murder and attempted rape of Stacie Reed, 16.
This is the incomplete article from CNN. You can read the entire article via the link at the end of this post. (My comments in red, bold is also mine).

(CNN) -- The murderer of a 16-year-old girl who bragged about his crimes was electrocuted Thursday night, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Corrections said.

Powell was convicted in the 1999 murder of Stacie Reed and the rape of her 14-year-old sister in their Manassas, Virginia, family home.

Powell's execution comes after Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell denied him clemency and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to block the execution.

The killer claimed double jeopardy after state prosecutors put him on trial for a second time in the killing. In July, the high court delayed Powell's execution while considering the broader constitutional claims, which were finally rejected. Powell rejected lethal injection, the state's usual method of execution.

The crime shocked the Washington, D.C. area. Reed knew Powell, then 20 and an admitted racist. The state's highest court eventually threw out the 2000 verdict in the first trial, saying prosecutors had not proven other necessary death-eligible offenses were committed against the 16-year-old. Such "aggravating" factors could include rape, attempted rape or robbery in commission of the murder.

The sexual assault and attempted murder of Stacie's younger sister was upheld, and Powell was given a long prison sentence.

Powell, believing he was free from execution, proceeded to write a taunting, profanity-filled letter from behind bars to Ebert, laying out explicit details of the crime unknown to investigators at the time.
"Since I have already been indicted on first degree murder and the Va. Supreme Court said that I can't be charged with capital murder again, I figured I would tell you the rest of what happened on Jan. 29, 1999, to show you how stupid all of y'all ... are [Join the club, Cleetus]," wrote Powell, who is white. [He's white? And? Why on earth is this noteworthy. Ohhhhhh I get it they had to clarify this because of his use of the vernacular "all of y'all" which- in CNN's mind- is typically reserved for non-whites. CNN is not racist. This is noteworthy because identifying language as non-white is typically reserved for racists.]

He said he had gone to the Reed house to confront Stacie about dating a black man. He admitted pinning the victim, threatening to rape her, then stabbing her in the heart when the girl resisted. He then stomped on her throat.

"I guess I forgot to mention these events when I was being questioned. Ha Ha!" he wrote in 2001. "Do you just hate yourself for being so stupid ... and saving me? [Prolly used to. Not anymore though. Thanks.]"

The killer also said that after that crime, he waited in the house until the younger girl returned from school, then attacked her, leaving her for dead. In the meantime, he drank iced tea from the family refrigerator and smoked a cigarette, part of the forensic evidence that investigators used to place Powell at the scene of the crime.

With this first-hand account from Powell, he was indicated again and charged with murder and attempted rape of Stacie -- a capital-eligible crime. He was convicted again, and federal and state courts subsequently upheld the conviction on appeal. [Tsk]

Join the tax revolt ...NOT!

I made the mistake of joining this "Online Tax Revolt" thinking these people were actually interested in tax reform. When I joined I didn't see anything to make me believe they were going to send me emails all the time.

Once I joined I began to get bombarded with email asking for money. In my opinion, if they just ask for money here and there, that's ok, but it's been every day and sometimes multiple times per day and I'm sick of it. I feel like these people saw that there were a bunch of people interested in this topic and saw it as money-making opportunity. I mean, after all, who's stupider than a bunch of mouth-breathing conservatives, right?

They have a link for you to unsubscribe from their emails so I clicked it and it told me I had been successfully unsubscribed. I got another email shortly afterward so I figured, it must take a few minutes to REALLY get unsubscribed. This morning I had two more in my in-box and I just deleted them. Then I went for a walk for about an hour and when I get back, there's another email asking for money. Hmmmm, quothe I, perhaps my "unsubscribe" did not "take." So I unsubscribed again ... and I got this message:

So I guess they got the unsubscribe request but ignored it. Either that or they're going to take their sweet time about stopping the emails. It's funny how they can sign you up and start sending the emails in five minutes but when you unsubscribe, suddenly it's a big snake-handling.  No problem though.  This ain't my first rodeo.  That's why I use my hotmail address for internet stuff like this ... if they start with the bombardment, I can block them and their mail never reaches my in-box.  They have been blocked.

Anyway, again, I apologize.  As far as I'm concerned, these people are only interested in making money.  Making money is fine but they represented themselves as a group with a cause ... foolish me, I bought it.

Yes - one of my favorite days

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

A father walks into a restaurant with his young son. He gives
the young boy 3 nickels to play with to keep him occupied. Suddenly, the boy
starts choking, going blue in the face. The father realizes the boy has
swallowed the nickels and starts slapping him on the back. The boy coughs up
2 of the nickels, but keeps choking. Looking at his son, the father is
panicking, shouting for help.

A well dressed, attractive and serious looking woman in a
blue business suit is sitting at the coffee bar reading a newspaper and
sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts
her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on the counter,
gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the restaurant.

Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants, takes
hold of the boy's testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first
and then ever so firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and
coughs up the last nickel, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand.
Releasing the boy's testicles, the woman hands the nickel to the father and
walks back to her seat at the coffee bar without saying a word.

As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill
effects, the Father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying,
"I've never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are
you a doctor?"

"No", the woman replied. "I'm with the IRS."

yes its a joke but its not far from the truth

Google "pulling out" of China ?

Details that a new front is opening up in the battle comes as it looks increasingly likely that Google is within weeks of pulling out of China after failing to reach a truce with the Chinese government over censorship.

Google has been trying to find a way not to heed Chinese demands that it censor search results for those using its Chinese search engine, However, progress toward an agreement has been slow, and over the weekend appeared to be breaking down following strong language from a Chinese government official.

Li Yizhong, China's minister of industry and information technology, warned that Google will "have to bear the consequences" if it doesn't filter its search results as required by Chinese law.

Google currently controls about 36 percent of China's search market, which currently stands at about 400 million users and grows by 250,000 every day.

However, in January Google officials first suggested they might pull out of China because of Beijing's insistence that search results be censored. More here:

Hmmm, Google to pull out of China ... no word yet from a frustrated China.

Seriously though, don't you wish our government would censor the internet and other media for you?  Think of how helpful it would be.  I wonder if the "majority" wanted this ... not that that's any reason for the government to take action.  The only people who seem to think "majority rule" is a good idea are Democrats ... have you noticed?

Keep voting for idiot liberals ... this censorship idea isn't very far away.  Frankly it may be a good idea.  Some people are so stupid they might actually believe things that aren't true ... or they might start agreeing with radical new ideas and start causing trouble.  Let's face it, we'd be doing the stupid people a huge favor ... it would be for the public good.

Passive Aggressive Notes Dot Com

I've seen this site before but haven't been there in an eternity. It's still funny. Here are some samplings:

What's funny about the first two is that only a Democrat would be insulted. I guess this proves that Democrats are the ones parking like idiots all over the country.

He's not crying because he didn't get an XBox, he's crying because he's realizing that his idiot relatives are Democrats. They think the whole thing is funny. They think it's funny that they can't afford to get an XBox. They think it's funny that he had any hope that he was wrong about them.

What's actually funny to me though is that I got to see the point in his life when he became a Conservative.

Joe Biden: It's Complicated.

I've known a few very smart people. The quality they all shared was the ability to describe something "very complicated" in a simple way so that anyone could understand it. It has been a long standing belief of mine that if someone can't explain something- complicated or not- it's because they don't understand it themselves. It has also been my experience that when something is complicated, it's because someone is trying to hide something.

We're Democrats...

"I talked to Huey on Monday. He said they taught him how to shoot a gun," Christine Mott said. "They taught him how to kick and fight . . . We're Democrats. We won't even buy him a toy gun."

Uh... What?

I disregarded this image the first time I saw it because I thought it was a goof. Once I saw it repeatedly in several blogs I follow, I realized it's not a joke at all. In the immortal words of 2pac, "Troublesome, Nigga".

I did a screenshot just in case the NYT wakes up and changes the picture. I know that's not at all likely- but I erred on the side of caution.

Without Much Commentary.

It looks like we've got another balloon boy on our hands.

DEFINITELY read this article if you haven't already. I suggested that Klown recruit this guy as a guest blogger.

Do Not Adjust Your Set.

I noticed yesterday

The Bradford Pears are starting to bloom. My favorite time of year is about to start to begin to commence to gettin' to goin.'

Well, This is Weir d.

From CNN.
Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- American figure skater Johnny Weir says he doesn't understand why the only ice skating tour in the United States doesn't want him.

"I'm not going to get on the ice and strip down naked and roll around," said Wier, a three-time U.S. ice skating champion.
Okay, maybe you won't get on the ice and strip down naked and roll around, but if you have to reassure us of this, I would hope you can understand why you might be unwelcome. I mean, I love the whole "whaaat? little ol' meeeee?" bit but please, try to improve your memory- short term and otherwise.

I'm not a fan of ice skating personally but I can understand that the people who are fans have certain expectations from the performers. Parents bring their children to these performances regularly. I get it that it's important to teach children to be tolerant of others who are different but there comes a time to draw the line. It's gotten to a point where the majority are forced to accept the minority ideals as "normal and acceptable".

"And Tango Makes Three" is a recent example of this phenomenon. Whether same sex marriage or homosexuality is right or wrong is a side issue. The debate is about the fact that it's controversial and most families have a natural aversion to controversy and its affect on children. Everyone eventually learns about plenty of controversial topics. However, most parents want to teach their children at their own pace and not have it forced upon them.

Johnny Weir is the same way. He's a controversial and confrontational person. He's using his celebrity as a skater for a platform to bully anyone who'll listen into hearing about his mission. Historically speaking, people who really want to be accepted in an existing society try a little harder to adapt.

Here's the commercial for Mr. Weir's upcoming reality show.

See? There's nothing to worry about.

Democrat can't seem to grasp simple words

No Media Bias Here!

I read an article on CNN about Democrat Rep Eric Massa just to see how the lefty media would spin it. They didn't disappoint.

Here is the entire article:

Here are some interesting outtakes:

Margaret Carlson, writing on the Huffington Post blog, noted that when those claims did not pan out, Massa became "something more as the backbencher used  gullible Republicans to go out in a blaze of infamy."
In other words, we meant to do that. Those dumb bunny Republicans fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Soon after that, they spent a full SIX paragraphs on the 3 year old incident. This, I guess, is their idea of keeping it "fair and balanced". You know- just like the big boys at FOX. Maybe if they ever actually watched FOX, they'd learn what it actually means.

Republicans may also be pushing for a further investigation after one of their party's members faced a similar incident years ago. That incident is largely cited for the large number of GOP losses in the 2006 midterm elections.

In 2006, Florida GOP Rep. Mark Foley was forced to resign after his sexually suggestive e-mails to male pages were exposed.

Then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called for an investigation into when the Republican leadership, namely House Speaker Denny Hastert, was notified and "what corrective action was taken," according to her statement at the time.

After an investigation, the House Ethics Committee discovered that some people who knew about Foley's communications chose to "remain willfully ignorant."

Pelosi's resolution before the House was aimed at starting an investigation of "when the Republican leadership was notified and what corrective action was taken," according to her statement. Instead, then-House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, made a motion that the Foley matter be sent to the House Ethics Committee, which passed 409-0.

In the end, the ethics committee's probe concluded that House GOP leaders were negligent in not protecting male teenage pages from possible improper advances by Foley. But the panel said there were no violations of the House Code of Official Conduct and decided no one would be reprimanded.
They cleverly added a seventh paragraph to imply impartiality. "Now the tables have turned with the Massa scandal." See? They're impartial! Just like a 3 year old "disappears" when he closes his eyes.

This paragraph has a Liberal cliché- "Following its rules". I guess they think they're blowing their own horn by pointing out that even though what they're doing is devious, they're following the rule book so "sorry". Well, if they followed the rules all the time- you know- even when doing so is not in their favor, it wouldn't be noteworthy. I guess they forgot that part.

Boehner urged the House on Thursday to pass a resolution calling for an examination of the Democratic leadership's knowledge of the sexual harassment claims. Following its rules, the House voted 402-1 on a motion by Democrats to refer the situation to the Ethics Committee, essentially tabling Boehner's resolution.
I'm sure the systemic brown out they'll be experiencing in 2012 will come as a complete surprise to them. It will no doubt be touted as "mysterious and tragic".

P.S. I went back to get a picture to use to color up this post. There's an "okay" picture of Boehner so I went looking for a better one. In doing so, I realized that even though this article is about a scandal involving Rep Massa, he's not pictured for reference. Gee, that's a surprise! Well, I added one anyway. Mostly because I don't like surprises.

P.P.S. When I searched Google Images for "Massa", it wasn't until PAGE NINE that a picture of him showed up. Probably just a coincidence.

This is Eric Massa. The picture might have been taken with an iPhone:
For the record, Eric Massa is on the left and Terrell Owens is on the right. Originally, this photo was found on Massa's website ( but has since been removed. It must have been heartbreaking for a Democrat to have to remove evidence that he hobnobs with celebrities. Obviously, this particular celebrity doesn't share the sentiment. I can't blame him and at least now I know who he is.

Hmmm - GOT GPS?

The Church of "Jackass"

Saw this on Tosh.0 on Comedy Central. You've gotta love the cool "victory" celebration at the end. I shall remember that move next time I do something really stupid.

Atta girl- keep perpetuating the stereotype that black people are stupid. Sheesh. This is the actual text. The emphasis is mine as if you need the help.

I hate to use the term people of color but I didnt want to leave anyone out. by color I mean anyone not white as a ghost, sorry if I offend, but I was offended by the lack of thought. But if you are in a club, which is the best place to take pics or camping with friends, or just haveing a night out on the town you cant take a photo memory of it cause the iphone does not have a flash. I do not like looking like a little brown spot in photos with my lighter friends and i dont want to carry around a camera if my phone has a camera on it, just to much to carry[...]. I hear tail that apple mac is not going to do anything about this problem and that they are willing to lack in the giant shadow they have made.
Okay. As I was going through bolding the spelling errors, I realized the grammatical errors were even worse. Some of the so-called sentences don't even make sense at all even after you correct the grammar and spelling. I'm sure it would be perfectly clear if I had gone ahead and learned Ebonics but I didn't.

Her point is that Apple ("apple mac"?) is racist because the iPhone doesn't have a flash so you can't take pictures of dark people in dark settings because they disappear. She argues that you have to be "white as a ghost" for the camera to work. Maybe it's just me, but if you're white as a ghost, you probably don't get out much and thus, don't attend under-illuminated clubs (which is the best place to take pics).

I guess I see what she means though because in this picture, you can only make out the guy in the white shirt... because he's wearing a white shirt. The other black dude is all but invisible. To add insult to injury, the photographer clearly used a flash. When will the oppression end? Oh the HUMANITY!

In other words, Apple is discriminating against everyone who doesn't live in their parent's basement playing World of Warcraft 24/7. It doesn't take a genius to wonder if they were even selling iphones to black people yet in the first place. Do you think she stole the phone?

Before you jump down my throat, google "metabigotry".
