And I Thought I Was Good At This Stupid Game

Everybody wins. Nobody loses.

Along the same lines as the post below ("The decline and fall of Western Civilization"), this commercial teaches the same lesson. Now, I know this is "just" a commercial and for that reason, academics will tell you "it doesn't matter", "don't pay any attention to it", or "why are even commenting on a commercial in the first place?". Of course, I know better. I know that there is truth to every jest. I know that when "it's not about the money" it's about the money. I know that when you say, "I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, but..." you're trying to hurt my feelings.

In other words, nice try, Lucy, but I'm not kicking the ball.



I know that the cognoscenti who regularly read this blog will think I'm stating the obvious here but this commercial caused me to ask one big question: "Who is going to feed all those animals?"

I suppose the Libs will suggest a government social program to feed them. I'm also sure that it will cost a fortune and ultimately fail leaving everyone and everything involved much worse off than they were beforehand. Of course when it does inevitably fail, the Libs will shrug their shoulders and shed a tear because "we did the best we could but because of the bad Republicans and Corporations, we never really stood a chance."

Life would be easier for us all if Libs believed in God. If they did, they'd stop trying to fix everything that already works. For all their years of studying nature, they haven't learned a damned thing. Animals eat other animals. The benefits of this plan are numerous and vast. This whole Disneyfied idea of animals all getting along does not work. Of course, any sentient individual recognizes this as a thinly veiled argument for cultural and racial diversity. In the real world, diversity doesn't actually work.

In the real world, resources are limited. When resources are limited, different species compete. Where there is competition- real competition- there are winners and losers. The only people who can convince themselves that there is no such thing as winning and losing are Libs. If we start believing what they're promoting, we'll be in just as much trouble as they are.

This is what I've been saying all along. For some reason, Libs have decided that self-esteem should come above everything else in a child's life. Unfortunately, Libs have no sense of right or wrong, logic, or common sense so they take it to a ridiculous extreme. There's a difference between seeing the silver lining around a cloud and not seeing the cloud at all- but not for Libs.

Rather than encouraging the strengths and letting the weaknesses wither, they're just calling the weaknesses "strengths" and going from there. The problem with this strategy is that it's not based in truth and just like calling radical Islamic terrorism "the religion of peace", it's only going to blow up in not only your face but in the rest of our faces as well.

The old adage, "it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game" still holds true, however, the spirit of this message is that you should learn to play the game properly because if you do, you will ultimately start winning regularly. Any sports fan can tell you that it's no fun when your team loses. Any athlete knows this even better.

There is pleasure in winning by playing the game better than the other team. A clean win comes from working harder, focusing better, having better leadership and experiencing better teamwork than the other team. These are all positive influences on the life of an individual and the lessons learned are carried with you for life and will serve you well in every aspect of your life. This does not, however, mean the same thing as winning at all costs.

True to form, Libs don't understand this simple philosophy. Rather than doing the work and earning a win, they instead try to find an "angle", a backdoor, a loophole, or a shortcut. The reason for this is that it's human nature to want to win but when you convince yourself that you're "above all that", simple rules and simple solutions are no longer an option. This is why the overwhelming majority of cases of voter fraud are perpetuated by Democrats. For the sake of their self-esteem, they have been brainwashed into believing that there's no such thing as winning or losing.

I keep thinking that this is all going to come to a crashing halt any day now but it continues. The story that follows is an extreme example of a very real problem.

It‘s something of a stretch to compare a soccer game among eleven-year-old boys with the fate of the democratic world, but I’ve always managed to see big issues in small things.

My son is playing on a local soccer team which has lost every one of its games, often by humiliating scores. The coach is a nice guy, but seems an archetype of contemporary thinking: he tells the kids not to care about whether they win, puts players at any positions they want, and doesn’t listen to their suggestions.

He never criticizes a player or suggests how a player could do better. My son, bless him, once remarked to me: “How are you going to play better if nobody tells you what you’re doing wrong?” The coach just tells them how well they are playing. Even after an 8-0 defeat, he told them they’d played a great game.

And of course, the league gives trophies to everyone, whether their team finishes in first or last place.

Jackasses cannot stop squandering your money

DURHAM – University of New Hampshire and outside researchers are creating a computer model to help organic dairy farmers cut greenhouse gas emissions such as methane, because Beano probably isn't an option.

Nitrogen- and carbon-based greenhouse gases are produced via a complicated system at dairy farms that is affected by everything from the weather to the soil to the feed to cow burps, among other things.

"Cows emit most of their methane through belching, only a small fraction from flatulence," said the project's principal investigator, Ruth Varner of UNH's Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space.

UNH has been awarded a $700,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to create a computer model that measures the amount of greenhouse gases an organic dairy farm produces and thus provide ways to cut those emissions. More here:

Objective jourrrrnalist caught giving cash to Democratics

MSNBC has suspended prime-time host Keith Olbermann indefinitely without pay for contributing to the campaigns of three Democratic candidates this election season.

Olbermann acknowledged to NBC that he donated $2,400 apiece to the campaigns of Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona Reps. Raul Grivalva and Gabrielle Giffords. 

NBC News prohibits its employees from working on, or donating to, political campaigns unless a special exception is granted by the news division president—effectively a ban. Olbermann's bosses did not find out about the donations until after they were made. The website Politico first reported the donations.

Congratulations to all the tea party-backed candidates who overcame a determined, partisan opposition to win their elections. The next campaign begins today. Because you must now overcome determined party insiders if this nation is going to be spared from fiscal disaster.

Many of the people who will be welcoming the new class of Senate conservatives to Washington never wanted you here in the first place. The establishment is much more likely to try to buy off your votes than to buy into your limited-government philosophy. Consider what former GOP senator-turned-lobbyist Trent Lott told the Washington Post earlier this year: "As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them."

Don't let them. Co-option is coercion. Washington operates on a favor-based economy and for every earmark, committee assignment or fancy title that's given, payback is expected in return. The chits come due when the roll call votes begin. This is how big-spending bills that everyone always decries in public always manage to pass with just enough votes.

But someone can't be bribed if they aren't for sale. Here is some humble advice on how to recognize and refuse such offers. More here:

Tuesday Taste of the "Town"

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
It’s in a strip mall in Shallotte – curb appeal kind of low. But when I got out of my car I could smell the grilling – it made me even hungrier. Inside it’s open, clean, and decorated in a golfing theme.

SERVICE:
It started off pretty weak, any request required a 5 minute wait. She got much better, and ended up being about average.


CHEESEBURGER & FRIES:
The cheeseburger looked pretty good, not overcooked and semi-juicy. After the mandatory applications of ketchup, I believed the Klown mostly enjoyed it (see WTF? below). The fries were the large “steak fry” variety – not my favorite, but above average. I'll say B-

OTHER FOOD:
Our dining companion had the crab bites, small balls of crabmeat breaded and deep fried, served with a light dipping sauce. She was impressed – and so was I. There might have been more crabmeat in one crab “bite” than was in a whole crab cake from Duffy’s the week before. But I digress. I had “the” patty melt, which was OK, at best. It was served on a grilled rye that was twice the size of the patty, so I ended up with leftover bread. The homemade potato salad was excellent. The onions? – see WTF? below.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
Not a terrible meal. It’s definitely a diverse crowd, but one expects that in Shallotte. Our meal for three of us was less expensive than two of us paid at Duffy’s, and it was much better. I’d consider going again, but I wouldn’t go far out of my way (and it’s far out of my way normally).

WTF? EVENT:
EK commented shortly after we left about the strange “consistency” of the onions. I had the same experience – although mine were sautéed and his were raw. It was like they were mixed with dental floss or something – after a bite you could feel some sort of strange stringy thing in your mouth. After some research I learned that if you slice onions in advance and keep them in water for too long, the individual layers will separate and the membrane between comes loose. And the membrane alone is not good eating. So – stop doing that Duffer’s!

Unions flail to help Obama and the Democratics

Executives at the casino giant Harrah’s pushed company employees to vote early in an all-out effort to help the Harry Reid campaign, according to internal emails obtained by Battle ‘10.

The stepped-up effort began Wednesday when a Reid staffer sent an email pleading for help to Harrah’s top lobbyist, Jan Jones.

The Reid campaign staffer, whose name was removed in the email Batjer sent to Harrah’s executives, said “ANYTHING” would be done to help with the company’s get out the vote effort. The staffer cited the fact that 1,100 MGM employees had already voted and indicated dissatisfaction with the turnout from Harrah’s.

The staffer told Jones, senior vice president of communications and government relations, that the Reid campaign had “connected with Culinary” and that the problem was with mid-level supervisors. “They simply are not cooperating with and listening to upper management,” wrote the staffer.

The Harrah’s employee who forwarded the emails asked not to be identified due to fear of reprisal. The employee said the pressure from upper management was “disturbing.”

“We were asked to talk to people individually to find out why they had not yet voted and to fill in these spreadsheets explaining why,” the employee said. “I did not feel comfortable doing that.”

“It put me in a very awkward position,” the employee added, saying the level of coordination between Harrah’s upper management, the culinary union, and the Reid campaign was “disgusting.”

You know, I think unions are a good idea, nay ... a great free market idea.  However, the Democratics have seen fit to give unions huge legal advantages over corporations.  All this means is a great deal of the price you pay for items, hotel rooms, etc etc goes to the union in the form of dues and union workers in the form of ridiculously high wages.

Think of it as a corporation raising your prices just because they're "greedy" ... and the legal system helps them keep the money instead of passing it along to employees.  It's bull...oney.  It's  government interference in a free market ... "fettering," if you will.

I'd say to avoid Harrah's if you go to Nevada etc but my guess is most of the casino supervisors try to get their employees to vote for the union-friendly candidate.  Meanwhile, Steve Wynn owns a huge casino ... I wonder what he thinks of his supervisors promoting the Democratics.

San Francisco Giants win the World Series.

Never thought I'd see it.

ARLINGTON - On a night when two of the best pitchers in baseball engaged in a classic World Series duel, an aging shortstop found a way to steal the show.  Aging shortstop?  Have you seen a pic of this guy (Edgar Renteria?)  I was watching the game last night and the announcers were allowing how this guy was a factor in a 1997 World Series and I was looking at his face thinking, GEEZ, that guy looks young ... how old was he in 1997?  He was born in August 1975 making him  35 years old.  Here's a pic of him in Sept 2010.

Edgar Renteria's three-run home run against Cliff Lee lifted Tim Lincecum and the Giants to a 3-1 win over the Rangers, giving San Francisco its first World Series champion.

"Everybody was going up there and trying to be that guy," Cody Ross said. "It ended up being Edgar, which was perfect."  Meanwhile, Cody Ross was one of the big heroes of this series/season.  How humble is that?  What a great guy.

The title is the Giants' first since 1954, when Willie Mays was roaming center field at the Polo Grounds. Now, San Francisco sits atop the baseball world.

"They put a lot of those skeletons to rest," said a champagne-soaked Will Clark, one of several Giants legends who celebrated with the freshly minted champs.

Lincecum, the new face of the Giants in the post-Barry Bonds era, dominated the Rangers with eight innings of one-run ball, beating Lee for the second time in the series. Lee allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings, all three scoring on Renteria's unlikely home run.  "Unlikely home run" ... wtf?  Hey ... Linecum ... it's 2010 ... get a haircut you long hair hippie freak ... erm, I mean ... AWESOME JOB, DUDE!

"It's been a team effort," Lincecum said. "Everybody has been a hero on a different day. What a great (bleeping) team."  LMAO -- gotta love this guy.  He won the Cy Young award two years in a row (2008 & 2009.) More here:

Yes, I recall just a couple of weeks ago when a genius writer for the Washington Post named Dave Sheinin was denigrating the Giants ... saying how "improbable" it was that they would make it to the World Series.  Will there be an apology?  Well, he's a jourrrrnalist so draw your own conclusions.

Meanwhile, here's a couple of my childhood heroes (Willie Mays, Centerfield and Willie McCovey, First Base.)  I even owned this baseball card at one time.

 

I actually got to meet them both one time when they came to play in a golf tournament at a course in Berkeley where I worked.  They rode in the same cart.  I snagged the privilege of loading their bags and actually and got to chat with them for a few minutes before they teed off.  Both were just humble/great guys.  Willie Mays had "The Say Hey Kid" embroidered on the pocket of his baby blue  La Mode slacks.

Ok. it was a great night.  Can we hope for two in a row?  Let us pray ... "Lord, as long as you're performing unreal miracles, could you see your way clear to helping the  conservatives to a smoking election victory in both houses of congress tonight?"  In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN!!!

I'll be watching the early election results at Weezer's house.  There will be a fire/beers in the back yard and the television facing out into the yard from a window in the house.  It'll be sweet.
