I remember when I was about 12 years old ... thinking "why don't they just tax the big companies and then tell them they can't raise prices?" Yessir -- that was the answer and I couldn't believe that no one had thought of it yet.

After learning about the constitution and economics, I understood.

LOS ANGELES — The festering bad blood between movie-star exes Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger erupted Thursday when an angry phone message from Baldwin to his daughter was made public.
On the recording, Baldwin can be heard berating his 11-year-old, Ireland, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig."
"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being," he says, apparently upset that she did not answer her phone for a planned call.
"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."
He goes on to say that he plans to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on this issue."


Hmmmmm.. Sounds like a predisposed notion towards violence..... Might save some lives if we intervene now.. but that would be profiling - or would it?

Rosie O'Dumbshit - Dumber by the day

O'Donnell is an outspoken supporter of gun control and a major figure in the Million Mom March. During the April 19, 1999, broadcast of her talk show, she stated, "You are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun, I think you should go to prison".

Also in May 1999, Bernadette Peters and the rest of the cast from Annie Get Your Gun was to appear for taping and perform the song "Anything You Can Do". O'Donnell insisted that the line "I can shoot a partridge with a single cartridge" be removed from the song. Peters refused, and the cast sang a different song without Peters. Later in 1999, O'Donnell discontinued her contract with Kmart as their spokeswoman, because of her opinion of the large retailer's sale of firearms.[citation needed] However, K-Mart employees had told the New York Daily News that it was K-Mart who fired Rosie, which both K-Mart and Rosie denied publicly.[11]

In May of 2000, Rosie's bodyguard applied for a concealed firearm permit in Connecticut. At the time, Rosie claimed that it was not she who requested the carry permit, but Kroll, the security firm through which he was hired. Numerous parents who had children that attended the same school that Rosie's children did expressed concern about the possibility of Rosie's bodyguard being armed while on school grounds.

High-capacity magazines have been around for more than half a century, and the sale of high-capacity magazines was not impacted whatsoever by the 1994 Crime Bill. These magazines were freely and commercially available, both in retail stores and online, without interruption, for the 10-year life of the ban, the decades preceding it, and afterward.

Part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 was the so-called Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which was a ban on certain cosmetic features found on some firearms. It was, in fact, nothing more than "scary-looking gun" law.

Banned "assault rifles" were easily made legal again by manufacturers who merely had to remove the offensive accessories, such as flash hiders, pistol grip-style stocks, or bayonets lugs, none of which affected the rate of fire, accuracy or velocity of the firearms in question. Older firearms arbitrarily (and inaccurately) deemed assault weapons by the ban that were already in the market were grandfathered in, and the new "post-ban" assault weapons sold quite well during the length of the so-called ban.

Another provision of the ban was a ban on the manufacture of "large capacity ammunition feeding devices," which the law defined, again arbitrarily, as those rifle and pistol magazines that hold in excess of then rounds of ammunition.
Where Ross, ABC New, Olbermann and others are dead wrong is when they attempt to imply that the ban on the manufacture of new magazines of more than ten rounds was a ban on all high-capacity magazines. This is patently false.

Nobody saw it coming ... except ...

When I first heard about the multiple shootings at Virginia Tech yesterday, my first thought was about my friends, and my second thought was "I bet it was Seung Cho."

Cho was in my playwriting class last fall, and nobody seemed to think much of him at first. He would sit by himself whenever possible, and didn't like talking to anyone. I don't think I've ever actually heard his voice before. He was just so quiet and kept to himself.

Looking back, he fit the exact stereotype of what one would typically think of as a "school shooter" – a loner, obsessed with violence, and serious personal problems. Some of us in class tried to talk to him to be nice and get him out of his shell, but he refused talking to anyone. It was like he didn't want to be friends with anybody. One friend of mine tried to offer him some Halloween candy that she still had, but he slowly shook his head, refusing it. He just came to class every day and submitted his work on time, as I understand it.

A major part of the playwriting class was peer reviews. We would write one-act plays and submit them to an online repository called Blackboard for everyone in the class to read and comment about in class the next day. Typically, the students give their opinions about the plays and suggest ways to make it better, the professor gives his insights, then asks the author to comment about the play in class.

When we read Cho's plays, it was like something out of a nightmare. The plays had really twisted, macabre violence that used weapons I wouldn't have even thought of. Before Cho got to class that day, we students were talking to each other with serious worry about whether he could be a school shooter. I was even thinking of scenarios of what I would do in case he did come in with a gun, I was that freaked out about him. When the students gave reviews of his play in class, we were very careful with our words in case he decided to snap. Even the professor didn't pressure him to give closing comments.

After hearing about the mass shootings, I sent one of my friends a Facebook message asking him if he knew anything about Seung Cho and if he could have been involved. He replied: "dude that's EXACTLY what I was thinking! No, I haven't heard anything, but seriously, that was the first thing I thought when I heard he was Asian."

While I "knew" Cho, I always wished there was something I could do for him, but I couldn't think of anything. As far as notifying authorities, there isn't (to my knowledge) any system set up that lets people say "Hey! This guy has some issues! Maybe you should look into this guy!" If there were, I definitely would have tried to get the kid some help. I think that could have had a good chance of averting yesterday's tragedy more than anything.

So I was talking with some friends the other day and the subject of "Ruby Ridge" was being discussed. It turns out that we all thought the following things:

1 - Some "whack jobs" were "holed up" in a remote cabin in the woods.
2 - Agents surrounded the cabin and one or more people were killed.
2 - We didn't know if the "bad guy" was killed.
3 - We knew one or more people were captured and tried but we didn't remember the outcome of the trial(s).
4 - None of us knew/remembered why it all happened.
5 - We all assumed the FBI/cops went and got a bad guy.
6 - We all knew that Timothy McVeigh cited Ruby Ridge as one of the reasons he blew up the Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City.

Anyway ... if you know my friends then you will know we cannot just "let it go." We have to know ... so we looked it up. I ended up reading a bunch of pages about it and found it all summarized here. I was mortified. I shall not ruin it by giving you any hints.

A Bad Day for the Muslim Brotherhood in Minneapolis
Muslim cab drivers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are going to be suspended (and could have their licenses revoked) if they demand that their passengers follow shari’a law:

Looks like the Muslim Brotherhood front group calling itself the Muslim American Society may have pushed a little too hard on this front. Starting May 11, airport taxi drivers who refuse to transport riders carrying alcohol will be suspended for 30 days. And after a second offense, their license would be revoked for two years.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission voted 11-0 Monday to approve the crackdown, which some Muslim drivers say violates their religious beliefs. Commissioners called the change reasonable, practical and important for rider safety.

“We are sending a message that if you want to drive a taxi at our airport you can’t refuse our customers,” Steve Wareham, operations manager of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
