Well... that's a tragedy and a mystery.

A man convicted of murder for killing a 9-year-old girl while driving drunk was murdered in San Quentin prison just 10 days into a 24-year sentence. Investigators believe Edward Schaefer, 44, was stabbed to death with a homemade knife by inmate Frank Souza in the prison's reception yard, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Souza is serving a 60-years-to-life sentence for the murder of a homeless man.

Schaefer already had nine DUI convictions when he drove his motorcycle into Melody Osheroff and her father at a crosswalk last year, killing her and critically wounding him. "I'm not one of those people who rejoice in such things," Melody's mother said of Schaefer's killing. 'I don't think people being slain by another person is justified. I wanted him to be there long enough to think about what he had done."

Pictured at left is Frank Anthony Souza- the only suspect in Schaefer's murder. It is unclear if he killed him because Schaefer killed a child or because he thought he was a member of one minority or another. Either way, he doesn't look particularly "sorry".

Well, only nine convictions. Of course he went free. The Liberals and Liberal lawyers probably pleaded with the court you know- to give him just one more chance- please? You know the drill- he came from a broken home, he's an upstanding citizen and a pillar of the community, he never stood a chance with all the tough breaks dealt to him by society, and his drinking is a cry for help- he didn't know what he was doing.

However you whine the whine, he had NINE DUI CONVICTIONS and still managed to kill someone WHILE DRIVING DRUNK. Probably just a coincidence, right?

Yes, and what are they going to do with the guy that just committed murder ... AGAIN? I'll tell you what -- nothing. I sure hope the next time he murders (and there will be a next time) he murders an anti-death penalty politician's child.
