Tuesday Taste of the "Town"

After a slight respite, possibly followed by another, here's my latest review.

PAPI’S “TEXICAN” GRILL
LITTLE RIVER, SC


FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
This has to be the twentieth iteration of this particular location. It’s been everything from an Australian themed pub (The Down Under) to a fish place (Duffy’s Seafood Shack – previously reviewed at another locale.)

SERVICE:
Very attentive, nice (and she was cute, except for the 20 tattoos). We sat at the bar. No weird music or anything crazy.

CHEESEBURGER & FRIES:
EK claimed that it was quite good – it looked a bit dry to me, but I’m a medium-rare kind of guy. Large applications of ketchup – as usual – probably helped. The size of the burger was good, I thought.

OTHER FOOD:
I had “the” Carnitas tacos – 3 soft tacos filled with pork, served with pico de gallo, guac, cheese, and onions. Yum. The best part was the sauce I got with them – a sort of creamy/jalapeno/cilantro mixture that was incredible. We actually ordered some to go, and I believe Mrs. EK was going to try to replicate the recipe.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
It’s an odd place – squeaky floors, squeaky doors, and a very disparate customer group. All in all, I liked it, but I won’t be a regular.

WTF? EVENT:
First time I’ve seen Sharon (Zip it, Wombat) in months. She is still a hottie!

President of China visits Washington

Ha ha - the Taiwanese mocked the visit from Chinese President Hu. Good one. I love how Hu thought Obama was the valet upon his arrival -- and also like the Clinton booty count. Lots of stuff in this one -- might have to watch it a couple of times to see all the jokes.

Father of Our Country Boxed Away

Remember when a symbol representing the name of Jesus Christ had to be covered so that Comrade Obama could speak at Catholic Georgetown? Something similar happened yesterday during the MLK festivities. Via Free North Carolina:

The annual MLK observance at the state house in Columbia SC had an interesting twist this year. The event is held on the north side steps of the statehouse. Prominent at that location is a large bronze statue of George Washington. This year, the NAACP constructed a 'box' to conceal the Father of His Country from view so that participants would not be offended by his presence.

It would be nice to think that MLK Day is all about striving toward a colorblind society. In reality, it is political correctness day, which means it represents the opposite. If the dream were about people being judged by the content of their character, would they blot out the one person in our national history whose character was beyond reproach?

The real dream appears to be to tear down America, and replace it with a race-based society in which the 'victims' always get to be on top, regardless of merit, based on the color of their skin. Progress has been made. Is anyone clueless enough to think Barack Obama would be in office if both his parents had been white?

Sad News

On Saturday, January 15th, Royal Marshall, the longtime producer and sidekick of Neal Boortz died of a heart attack at his home. He was 43. I really enjoyed his contributions to the program.

MISINTERPRETATION?????

“I think it’s subject to misinterpretation,” spokesman Ibrahim Hooper told Fox News Radio when speaking about the poster. “We decided out of extreme caution to take it down.”

The poster was promoting a conference called “FBI Raids and Grand Jury Subpoenas: Know Your Rights and Defend Our Communities.” The keynote speaker is Hatem Abudayyeh, identified by CAIR as an activist and Palestinian community leader whose home was allegedly raided by federal agents in September.

The conference is scheduled for Feb. 9 at the East Side Cultural Center in Oakland.
Hooper conceded the poster “crosses the line,” but refused to renounce the artwork and blamed critics for fomenting what he called a manufactured controversy.

After you see the poster how is it misinterpreted, or a manufactured controversy?

I was doing a search for some barracuda attack that jan was talking about being on the news and came across this idiotic headline:
"Palin’s Persecution Complex Culminates with “Blood Libel” Accusation"

Persecution complex? It's not a complex if you're actually being persecuted and it's obvious to anyone thinking clearly that she is the lightning rod for anyone left of center. Of course this blatant contortion of the truth coerced me into reading the article.

Well, here's the first major paragraph:

"This gaffe -- demonstrating both an ignorance of religious history and language -- tops a disastrous week: her crosshairs map has been Exhibit A in the discussion of the use of gun-related imagery in political rhetoric. But her PR has been woefully inadequate in explaining the map away as "surveyors symbols." Her TLC show will not be renewed by TLC, her chances for a successful run at the presidency have been downgraded, and even Barbara Walters expressed "feeling a bit sorry for her." Palin, however, has remained aloof and cocooned in Wasilla, while hired minions wipe her Facebook page constantly so that negative comments do not show up. So how is Barracuda Barbie a.k.a. Queen Esther shaping her response? The persecution meme."

No persecution here. This writer does nothing but insult and disparage Mrs. Palin and then ends it with "the persecution meme". Just to save you the trouble of googling the word, the common definition is "The term Internet meme is a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet, much like an esoteric inside joke." Another definition which might be the one Ms. Butler intended to use is, "Any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another." Either way, she used a contemporary buzzword to sound cool instead of using the correct word. I'm not sure what the word is myself, but I certainly know that Libs will iterate the same thought or idea incessantly in hopes that people will eventually accept it as the truth. What Mrs. Palin is doing is the opposite of that. The truth is the author proved herself wrong with her own paragraph.

I didn't bother reading further because I'd like to go skiing at some point today but there's a photo of the author of the article and a short paragraph biography of her credentials:



I thought the wording "Her most recent book" was a bit dodgy so I did some googling. It turns out that "her most recent book" is her first actual book. According to Amazon.com, the rest are html documents and there is one paperback which she co-authored with two other writers. I love it when Libs try to slip one past us. Clearly her choice of words was used to indicate that she's a prolific author. She is not.

What? The NAACP is a "special interest group?"

SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- While attending a meeting for business leaders in Sanford, Governor Paul LePage spoke out about why he would not attend Martin Luther King ceremonies on the upcoming holiday.

LePage has declined invitations from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The organization has already expressed its displeasure with the governor's plans to not attend the events.

"They are a special interest. End of story...and I'm not going to be held hostage by special interests. And if they want, they can look at my family picture. My son happens to be black, so they can do whatever they'd like about it," said LePage.

LePage has an adopted son who is from Jamaica.

When a reporter from another television station asked LePage if his non-participation is more than one instance, and rather a pattern, he replied, "Tell 'em to kiss my butt. If they want to play the race card, come to dinner and my son will talk to them." More here:

Yes, the NAACP is just another special interest group (not that there's anything wrong with special interest groups.)  I like how they DEMAND attention from public officials as if they're ENTITLED.  I wondered how long these morons were going to get away with their scam.  They remind me of the "Congressional Black Caucus" (all leftist asshats.)

Hey ... NAACP ... this governor has got your number.  Go ahead and go to dinner at his house, jackasses.  Advancement of colored people my ass ... more like "give us money and publicity when we ask or we're going to arrange a little, erm, protest ... capisce?"  Yes, we need money to pay our staff and drive around in big SUV's keep up appearances.

One other thing ... here he is kicking the asses of jourrrrnalists and the NAACP .... a  rare thing for a politician to do ... aka, a nice "positive" thing, wouldn't you agree?  I notice how they left out the fact that he's a Republican.  We wouldn't want people to know that a Republican did this ... they might get the wrong idea ... so we'll just forget to mention it.

States' rights? Secret ballots? Yeah, we don't McThink so.

WASHINGTON – The National Labor Relations Board on Friday threatened to sue Arizona, South Carolina, South Dakota and Utah over constitutional amendments guaranteeing workers the right to a secret ballot in union elections.

The agency's acting general counsel, Lafe Solomon, said the amendments conflict with federal law, which gives employers the option of recognizing a union if a majority of workers sign cards that support unionizing.

The amendments, approved Nov. 2, have taken effect in South Dakota and Utah, and will do so soon in Arizona and South Carolina.

Business and anti-union groups sought the amendments, arguing that such secrecy is necessary to protect workers against union intimidation. They are concerned that Congress might enact legislation requiring employers to allow the "card check" process for forming unions instead of secret ballot elections. More here:

And every day it becomes more clear that we have to give the federal government a beating (election wise) that it will never ... ever forget.  We whipped its ass in the last election but it's still flailing away at our  freedom.  The states defeated Cap & Trade but the federal government is going ahead anyway through the EPA and the regulatory process.  You know why?  Because they don't give a damn, that's why.  You morons are out there voting with abandon and they just can't have that ... unless you agree with them.

LMAO -- the "Democratics" ... they are the FARTHEST thing from "democratic" as they can get.  Ohhhh, the irony.

Government and lawyers - our friends

Bobby and Amanda Herring spent more than a year providing food to homeless people in downtown Houston every day. They fed them, left behind no trash and doled out warm meals peacefully without a single crime being committed, Bobby Herring said.

That ended two weeks ago when the city shut down their "Feed a Friend" effort for lack of a permit. And city officials say the couple most likely will not be able to obtain one.

"We don't really know what they want, we just think that they don't want us down there feeding people," said Bobby Herring, a Christian rapper who goes by the stage name Tre9. More here:

I like it when government steps in to lend its genius in situations such as this.  I mean, what would we DO without the government controlling our every breath?  I can guarantee the government here has a problem with one of two things:

1 - They need to be consistent in the application of their kazillion regulations so they aren't sued.

2 - See item #1.

That's right -- lawyers are stopping the homeless from being fed for free.  But you know what?  Lawyers don't care ... they're only looking out for the public good ... and to ensure that everyone is treated equally ... right?

The film’s take-home message is that lying is necessary to sustain public morale: only a lie can redeem us. No wonder the only figure of truth in the film is the Joker, its supreme villain. He makes it clear that his attacks on Gotham City will stop when Batman takes off his mask and reveals his true identity; to prevent this disclosure and protect Batman, Dent tells the press that he is Batman – another lie. In order to entrap the Joker, Gordon fakes his own death – yet another lie.

The Joker wants to disclose the truth beneath the mask, convinced that this will destroy the social order. What shall we call him? A terrorist? The Dark Knight is effectively a new version of those classic westerns Fort Apache and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, which show that, in order to civilise the Wild West, the lie has to be elevated into truth: civilisation, in other words, must be grounded on a lie. The film has been extraordinarily popular. The question is why, at this precise moment, is there this renewed need for a lie to maintain the social system?

Surprisingly, the Left thinks Palin can do no right.

It was unfair for liberal detractors to link Palin to the shootings and she had a right to be angry, Kurtz writes, but she could have chosen to speak to the country in a "calmer, more inclusive way" instead of fueling the fire with her "blood libel" remarks.

Palin's video escalated her war with the press and "continued her us-versus-them approach to political discourse," Kurtz writes. Hitting back at critics instead of trying to respond with a unifying message seems like "the response of someone who wants to stoke her base and further her lucrative career as a culture warrior—not someone who is plotting to run for president," he concludes.

Remarkable. It's almost as if no matter what Mrs. Palin does, the Left criticizes her. It's as if there's a pattern there... somewhere.

Hey Gunners,

The Arizona tragedy illustrates there is so much wrong with the human condition. People can use objects to harm others. Ever since man realized he could take the life of another man we have been killing each other for benefit or revenge. Frequently we justify these actions on a disagreement of another's belief system.

What is so sad now is that people are using this tragic shooting as an opportunity to raise funds to help their political prospects or fill their organizational coffers. Yes, guns kill. That is what they are designed to do. Many are specifically designed to kill people. Murder existed long before guns were made and it exists in places where guns are outlawed. Guns take lives and guns save lives.

Someday there may be a world that doesn't need guns. Someday there may be a world where you don't need to protect yourself from someone that intends you harm. Until the human condition allows us to live in peace, we are dependent upon the sheepdog.

Be the sheepdog. Protect those that can't protect themselves. To those that want to harm others either for profit or for philosophy-to the best of our ability we won't let you. To those that would disarm the sheepdog, remember the wolves are out there and they will find you. You can't negotiate with them. You can only die. Life is precious; never deny anyone the opportunity to ensure their self preservation or the protection of the innocent.

This reminds me of a recent article I read regarding proper herd management for sheep. The author talked about having two different types of dogs to help him with the sheep. One was a Border Collie and it helped him move the sheep around the pastures. The other was a pair of Maremma Sheepdogs. The Maremma is a white dog with a black nose and blends in well with the herd- looking very much like the sheep it protects. According to the author, "The dogs live with the herd and stay with the herd. They don't respond to commands and they distrust strangers. They think and act like sheep except that if they feel that you're threatening the flock, they'll tear your throat out. No, really."
