The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Camera guy wasn't followin'

MARCH 27--Meet Vince Shlomi. He's probably better known to you as the ShamWow Guy, the ubiquitous television pitchman who has been phenomenally successful peddling absorbent towels and food choppers. Shlomi, 44, was arrested last month on a felony battery charge following a violent confrontation with a prostitute in his South Beach hotel room.

According to an arrest affidavit, Shlomi met Sasha Harris, 26, at a Miami Beach nightclub on February 7 and subsequently retired with her to his $750 room at the lavish Setai hotel. Shlomi told cops he paid Harris about $1000 in cash after she "propositioned him for straight sex." Shlomi said that when he kissed Harris, she suddenly "bit his tongue and would not let go." Shlomi then punched Harris several times until she released his tongue. The rest at The Smoking Gun:

Tax the evil rich -- TAX THEM !!!

March 27 (Bloomberg) -- New York Governor David Paterson said next year’s record budget gap may be $3 billion greater than the $16.2 billion he announced earlier this week and hinted a tax increase on higher incomes is possible. More here:

Ha ha - keep taxing the shit out of them. Maybe they won't raise their prices to the poor to offset their increased taxes -- you know, if they're mentally fucking retarded. Maybe they won't move their businesses (jobs) out of New York. I guess cutting expenses is out of the question. Keep voting for idiot liberals.

Funny, huh. New York and California both tax the crap out of their rich and they're both all screwed up with their budgets. I see the problem here. They must not be taxing the evil rich enough.

Hmmmm - here's an idea

Another ground-breaking study from the folks at Cockeyed: How much is inside Cheetos? (More pics and info at the link.)

Cheetos puffs are filled with delicious cheese flavor.. and air. Not only is the bag sealed with plenty of cushioning air, the puffs themselves are packed with air.

But how much air? The bag would have you believe that each one contains a "puff", but is that really true? How much is inside Cheetos? On Friday night, we decided to find out.
When you remove all the air, this is what's left:

Because this orange powder is Essense of Cheetos, a.k.a. flavor incarnate, it is excellent for use as a seasoning. I transferred some into a salt shaker for later use on french fries, pancakes, oatmeal, pizza, salmon, other Cheetos and in marijuana cigarettes.

Getting engaged in 1760 (New England)

In 1759 Reverend Andrew Burnaby left his post as Vicar of Greenwich, England and embarked on a four-month voyage to America. He spent the following year traveling about the colonies, keeping a journal of what he experienced. One custom prevalent in Massachusetts Bay Colony caught his eye - the practice of "Bundling" or "Tarrying" in which young couples thinking of marriage would share a night in the same bed fully clothed or "bundled." Sometimes a board would be placed between the couple. Although more common in New England, bundling was practiced in many of the other colonies.

The Reverend Burnaby notes that the courting couple's activity wasn't always restricted to conversation while they bundled:

"A very extraordinary method of courtship, which is sometimes practised amongst the lower people of this province, and is called Tarrying, has given occasion to this reflection. When a man is enamoured of a young woman, and wishes to marry her, he proposes the affair to her parents, (without whose consent no marriage in this colony can take place); if they have no objection, they allow him to tarry with her one night, in order to make his court to her.

At their usual time the old couple retire to bed, leaving the young ones to settle matters as they can; who, after having sate up as long as they think proper, get into bed together also, but without pulling off their undergarments, in order to prevent scandal. If the parties agree, it is all very well; the banns are published, and they are married without delay. If not, they part, and possibly never see each other again; unless, which is an accident that seldom happens, the forsaken fair-one prove pregnant, and then the man is obliged to marry her, under pain of excommunication." From EyeWitnessToHistory.

Tarrying? Yes ... "tarrying" her ass up is my guess. "Worryeth not, future father-in-law. We shall be in the bed -- fully clothed -- and outeth, her brains I will not fuck."

I had to look up "banns."

The banns of marriage, commonly known simply as "the banns", (from an Old English word meaning "to summon") are the public announcement in a parish church that a marriage is going to take place between two specified persons.

Obama's Aunt says "Fuck You All!"

BOSTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's Kenyan aunt, who was ordered deported five years ago, can stay in the United States legally until next year when she makes a new asylum bid, an immigration judge ruled on Wednesday.

"The decision as to Ms. Onyango's request to stay permanently in the U.S. will be made during a second hearing," Michael Rogers, a spokesman for Onyango's lawyer, Margaret Wong, said in a statement. More here:

How about that? She was deported twice and completely disregarded the law but now everything is just fine. What a shocker. I guess they found some critical evidink in that closed-door hearing.

Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Recession no cause for restraint

With an entourage of 500 staff, an armour-plated limousine and a fleet of decoy helicopters, America's new president will arrive for his first visit to Britain amid huge razzmatazz on Tuesday for the G20 summit.

Wow, it takes 500 peeps to go with the Presidink? I had no idea.

Ever notice ... there is never a recession in the government ... never a cutback. Damn the costs, full speed ahead. Recessions are only for the serfs and the rice field workers. Did we mention a tax increase?

But Klown ... the tax increases are only for the greedy rich ... they'll never pass their increased costs along to the poor ... that just wouldn't be right.

Government solves HUGE problem

One man jumped to his death off the All-America Bridge this year.

Two more used the Akron bridge — more commonly known as the Y-Bridge — to commit suicide in 2008.

Akron hopes to curtail future deaths on what has been dubbed ''Suicide Bridge'' by installing a fence.

The controversial fencing — some have been pushing for it, while others think it's a waste of money — was among the local projects the state approved Thursday for federal stimulus funds.

''It just makes a safer Akron for everybody,'' said Robert Conley, who has been urging the fencing since his son, Kevin, jumped off the bridge to his death in 2006. Uh, excuse me, that is false. It DOES NOT "make it safer for everybody, jackass." You just want a fence so you can say your son didn't "die in vain." It matters not how much it costs me -- just as long as YOU can say "my son didn't die in vain." Let me tell you -- he died in vain. Almost everyone dies in vain, except for heros who save others through courage and selflessness.

Akron received the most stimulus funding of any local community — $21 million for four projects, including $7.5 million for improvements to the Y-Bridge. (The fencing is expected to cost $1 million to $1.5 million; the rest will go toward new decking for the 28-year-old span.) More here:

Yes - so they're going to flush 1 - 1.5 million (minimum) down the toilet. Now, instead of jumping off a bridge, the suicide peeps will give up, defeated. I guess that solves THAT problem. Oh, I almost forgot, it appears the fence might not be free to maintain. No biggie though, it's just taxpayer's money -- so it's free to politicians.

At least that bridge looks like it would be good for suicide peeps. The landing looks like it might be a little stiffer than that of the Golden Gate. KERSPLATTT!

Government solves "difficult" problem

From the Weekly Standard:

Here, from the Associated Press, is a partial account of DNI (Director of National Intelligence) Dennis Blair’s first press conference today.

Some of the detainees, deemed non-threatening, may be released into the United States as free men, Blair confirmed.

That would happen when they can't be returned to their home countries, because the governments either won't take them or the U.S. fears they will be abused or tortured. That is the case with 17 Uighurs (WEE'-gurz), Chinese Muslim separatists who were cleared for release from the jail long ago. The U.S. can't find a country willing to take them, and it will not turn them over to China.

Blair said the former prisoners would have [to] get some sort of assistance to start their new lives in the United States.

“We can't put them out on the street,” he said.

Four short questions/comments:

(1) Does this mean that the Obama administration is planning on giving some freed Guantanamo detainees a stipend? It sure appears that way. So, not only is the Obama administration planning on freeing some detainees on U.S. soil, it is also going to pay them to live here. Amazing. Who would have thought that we would see the day when detainees who were once labeled enemy combatants would be receiving welfare?

None of the 17 Uighurs are master terrorists on par with the likes of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. They were mostly new recruits at the time of their capture. However, as I have argued before, they are all affiliated with and/or members of a designated terrorist organization, received training at a training camp in the al Qaeda/Taliban stronghold of Tora Bora, and have admitted that they were trained by two known terrorists. And, on top of that, the group that trained them threatened to attack the Olympic Games in China last year. More at the weeklystandard:

As usual, the government makes a list of stupid possibilities and then picks the stupidest possible idea. Good job, idiots.

I know, let's release the terrorists into the United States and then pay them free money from the taxpayers. Surely nothing bad could come from that!

Seriously, we need to throw the entire government out on its ass.

Is England beginning to learn?

United Nations - Great investment for us

India’s Rajendra K. Pachauri is Chair of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) convened by the United Nations to forge a scientific consensus on global warming.

A United Nations document on "climate change" that will be distributed to a major environmental conclave next week envisions a huge reordering of the world economy, likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfer, millions of job losses and gains, new taxes, industrial relocations, new tariffs and subsidies, and complicated payments for greenhouse gas abatement schemes and carbon taxes — all under the supervision of the world body.

Those and other results are blandly discussed in a discretely worded United Nations "information note" on potential consequences of the measures that industrialized countries will likely have to take to implement the Copenhagen Accord, the successor to the Kyoto Treaty, after it is negotiated and signed by December 2009. The Obama administration has said it supports the treaty process if, in the words of a U.S. State Department spokesman, it can come up with an "effective framework" for dealing with global warming. More here:

I love it. The United Nations wouldn't even exist if we didn't pay for it. We're happily paying for our own demise. Keep voting for idiots.

Also, it is just me, or do most idiots actually LOOK like idiots?

Genius identifies root of financial problems

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday blamed the global economic crisis on “white people with blue eyes” and said it was wrong that black and indigenous people should pay for white people’s mistakes.

Speaking in Brasília at a joint press conference with Gordon Brown, the UK prime minister, Mr Lula da Silva told reporters: “This crisis was caused by the irrational behaviour of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing.” More here:

We're awaiting word, from this genius, on the skin and eye color of peeps who are causing the genocide, slaughter, and starving of peeps in Rwanda.

Jackass brays - lives to regret it

From Olbermann Watch:

6 things about Leave It To Beaver

Hugh Beaumont was a deeply religious man and obtained his Master of Theology degree from USC in 1946. He only turned to acting after he was assigned as pastor to a community that couldn’t afford to pay him. To supplement his income, he first did ads and serials on radio. When he made the transition to television, he was usually cast as the “bad guy” until Leave It to Beaver came along. Beaumont was always professional on the set and friendly to the kids, but he harbored a deep sadness that he blamed on the show.

He lived with his family part of the year in Minnesota, and he usually drove his crew to L.A. when it was time to work. However, because filming on Beaver began rather abruptly after the pilot sold, Beaumont had to fly to California, leaving his son Hunter to drive Beaumont’s wife and her mother out west. Hunter lost control of the car along the way, and Beaumont’s mother-in-law was killed in the crash. More at Mental Floss:

The American Museum - Online Magazine

The American Museum was founded in Philadelphia by Mathew Carey. The first issue came off the press in 1787 under its original full title, The American Museum, or Repository, of Ancient and Modern Fugitive Pieces &c., Prose and Poetical. In the fourth year of publication, Carey changed the title to The American Museum, or, Universal Magazine, Containing Essays on Agriculture, Commerce, Manufactures, Politics, Morals, and Manners. The initial run of the magazine spanned 72 consecutive monthly issues, or "numbers", as Carey referred to them. The last number in this initial run was issued in December, 1792. Carey resurrected the magazine five years later, publishing what would be the final 12 issues under his editorship, under the title The American Museum: or, Annual Register of Fugitive Pieces, Ancient and Modern, for the Year 1798.
After an almost 211-year hiatus, we resume publication of the magazine with the April, 2009, edition. It will again be published monthly, and will only appear online. The purpose of the magazine is to provide well written material that is informative, interesting, thought-provoking, and enjoyable. Each number will contain no more than 15 pieces that can be read at leisure over the course of the month. The magazine has no theme or agenda other than to furnish stimulating words and images for thoughtful minds. Mathew Carey, at age 73, wrote his autobiography in the form of 26 letters. These letters were printed by Carey's friend, Park Benjamin, in the New-England Magazine, over the course of the years 1833 and 1834. In addition to the articles reprinted in this magazine, the letters will also be printed seriatim here, beginning with the first letter, in the April, 2009, edition. The letters give an interesting perspective on some of the history of the newly independent and recently organized United States of America.

A good friend of mine has created an online magazine that I think will interest most of you. Some of you might know George McDowell from the few years he lived in Calabash. This magazine was originally created by his relative back in 1787. Since retiring, Geo thought it would be worthwhile to bring this magazine back to life. After reading the introduction page, my thought was that the magazine was much like this blog, the writer wrote what he thought was interesting and what he damn well felt like letting people know. Since the magazine contains a great deal of history, the Klown came to mind immediately. Geo has also set up to auto notify people when the new edition is out. Wonderful Job, GEO!!!
