McCain knows the tax code is idiotic

(AP) Republican John McCain said Thursday that as president he would appoint Alan Greenspan to lead a review of the nation's tax code - even if the former Federal Reserve chairman was dead.

"If he's alive or dead it doesn't matter. If he's dead, just prop him up and put some dark glasses on him like, like 'Weekend at Bernie's,'" McCain joked. "Let's get the best minds in America together and fix this tax code."

The 81-year-old Greenspan served as chairman of the Fed for 18½ years.

Campaigning in early-voting South Carolina, McCain was asked about his support for a flat tax.

"If the fair tax crossed my desk, I'd sign it. If a flat tax did, I'd sign it," McCain said while noting criticism of the concept. "What we all agree: It has to be made simpler and fairer."

This tax thing is probably the most important issue to me. He says he'll sign what the people send -- so now we just need to get our representatives to send him
"THE FAIR TAX."
The "FLAT TAX" is really no better than we have now.

Mental Midget or Internet Expert ??

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Il called himself an "Internet expert" during summit talks with South Korea's president this week, a news report said Friday.

The reclusive leader made the remark after South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun asked that South Korean companies operating at an industrial park in the North Korean city of Kaesong be allowed to use the Internet, Yonhap news agency reported, without citing any source.

"I'm an Internet expert too. It's all right to wire the industrial zone only, but there are many problems if other regions of the North are wired," Kim told Roh, according to Yonhap.

North Korea is one of the world's most closed nations, with the totalitarian regime tightly controlling outside information and tolerating no dissent. Radios and TV sets in North Korea can only receive state broadcasts and ordinary people are banned from using mobile phones, let alone the Internet.

Hey - Kim Jong Ill -- pipe down, jackass.

Jokes: My favs in color font.

"Apparently North Korea set off a nuclear bomb. Now they say the seismic tests were inconclusive. So basically we have no idea whether they did it or not -- or as the Bush administration calls it, 'a slam dunk.'" --Bill Maher

"President Bush said today we should be patient with North Korea and use diplomacy and not rush into any kind of military actions. You know what that means? No oil over there." --Jay Leno

"Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright called North Korea's leader Kim Jung Il a pervert. In response, Kim Jung Il said 'I dare her to put on a leather mask and say that to my ass.'" --Conan O'Brien

"Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright said North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il is, quote, 'a pervert.' When Kim Jong Il heard that, he said tell her to say it again slowly while licking her lips." --Conan O'Brien

"North Korean dictator Kim Jung Il may be stepping down. Yeah, experts in the State Department say he could be replaced by his son, Menta Li Ill." --David Letterman

"The latest political rumor, North Korea ruler Kim Jong Il is close to naming his successor. Yeah, he said the only person with glasses big enough to replace me is Nicole Richie." --Conan O'Brien

"North Korea is making several demands in exchange for giving up their nuclear program, including a promise from America not to attack them. Which is a little strange because for us to attack them we would have to have slam dunk proof that they have weapons of mass destruction. I mean, for Gods sakes people, we're not maniacs. It would have to be an air-tight case. We wouldn't just come in there and start bombing you." --Jon Stewart

Oh this is beautiful

Ok -- the "Nobel Peace Prize" has meant nothing to me since Carter got one -- after that they seem to hand it out to the jackass with the longest ears that season.
OSLO (Reuters) - Former Vice President Al Gore and other campaigners against climate change lead experts' choices for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, an award once reserved for statesmen, peacemakers and human rights activists.

Gore, who has raised awareness with his book and Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," and Canadian Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier, who has shed light on how global warming affects Arctic peoples, were nominated to share the prize by two Norwegian parliamentarians.

"I think they are likely winners this year," said Stein Toennesson, director of Oslo's International Peace Research Institute (PRIO) and a long-time Nobel Peace Prize watcher.

S'cuze me -- I have to go puke.

And there's this:
CNN Meteorologist Rob Marciano clapped his hands and exclaimed, "Finally," in response to a report that a British judge might ban the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" from UK schools because, according to "American Morning," "it is politically biased and contains scientific inaccuracies."

And this:
Gore refuses to debate experts about global warming.

Seven hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money to spend to try to get someone to talk to you and not get an answer.

That's how much the Heartland Institute, a Chicago-based libertarian think tank, has forked over in six months for advertisements in national newspapers trying to persuade Al Gore to debate one of its experts on global warming issues. "We have tried, repeatedly, to contact Gore directly, with registered letters and calls to his office, and have never received a reply," says Joseph Bast, Heartland president.

A spokeswoman for Gore told me by e-mail that Heartland is an oil-company-funded group that denies that global warming is real and caused by human activities.

"The debate has shifted to how to solve the climate crisis, not if there is one," said Kalee Kreider. "It does not make sense for him to engage in a dialogue with them at this time." More here:

Yes -- the debate has "shifted" -- I guess they haven't heard -- so Kalee set their asses straight.

No, really -- we CAN tax your raggedy ass

Marshals Arrest N.H. Tax Evaders

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - U.S. marshals posing as supporters arrested convicted tax-evaders Ed and Elaine Brown at their rural, fortress-like home, the head marshal said Friday.
"They invited us in, and we escorted them out," U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said, releasing the first details of Thursday night's arrests.

A small team of marshals pulled off the ruse, arresting the Browns without incident on the front porch of their Plainfield home in west- central New Hampshire, Monier said.

The arrests ended a months-long standoff that began in January, when Brown, 65, a retired exterminator, and his dentist wife, 67, walked out of their federal trial in Concord. She returned to the trial but soon joined her husband at home, where they vowed to resist violently if authorities tried to arrest them.

"We either walk out of here free or we die," Ed Brown said.

At a news conference, Monier said officials found booby traps in the woods on the 100-plus-acre property and weapons, ammunition and homemade bombs inside and outside the house. He said more charges are likely.

"By their continuing actions, allegedly, to obstruct justice, to encourage others to assist them to obstruct justice, by making threats toward law enforcement and other governmental officials, they have turned this into more than a tax case," Monier said.

The Browns were turned over to federal corrections officials to serve prison terms of 63 months. They were convicted in January of scheming to avoid federal income taxes by hiding $1.9 million of income between 1996 and 2003 and were sentenced in April.

The couple claims the federal income tax is not legitimate. Their argument—repeatedly rejected by courts—is that no law authorizes the federal income tax and that the 1913 constitutional amendment permitting it was never properly ratified.

Experts had praised authorities' hands-off approach before the surprise arrests, but patience had worn thin among some of Plainfield's 2,400 residents. During the summer, town selectmen asked Monier to stop the influx of militiamen and other anti-government groups to the Browns' home and to bring the couple to justice.

Last month, authorities arrested four men accused of helping obstruct justice in the Browns' case. Charges ranged from accessory after the fact to possession and use of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. Authorities also blocked access to a fundraising event on the Browns' property.

Earlier this year, officials cut power and telephone service in an effort to increase pressure on the couple.

The home is on an isolated dirt road and includes a turret that offers a 360-degree view of the property and a driveway that had sometimes been barricaded with sport utility vehicles.

Heavily armed police surrounded the home in June while they seized commercial property the couple owned in a neighboring town. SWAT teams, military and explosives vehicles marshaled in the tiny town and sparked rumors of a raid.

Monier said then the gathered forces were only for surveillance. On Friday, he would not discuss details of the operation, including the exact number of deputy marshals involved, what they said to the Browns or how the couple reacted.

"Last evening, the Browns invited yet another what they thought were like-minded individuals to their home. Unfortunately for them, the supporters actually turned out to be deputy U.S. marshals," he said. "By the time Ed and Elaine Brown realized this, they were in custody. Ultimately, this open-door policy they seemed to have, which allowed the Browns to have some supporters bring them supplies, welcome followers, even host a picnic—this proved to be their undoing." D'OH

The arrests "will be a relief to everyone in the community," said state Agriculture Commissioner Stephen Taylor, a Plainfield resident. "This has been such a distraction to everybody."

A message left for Elaine Brown's son, David Hatch-Bernier of Worcester, Mass., was not returned.

Supporters of the Browns called them leaders who were trying to protect their freedom.

Shocker -- Commie's "Crack Down"

Well - yeah -- they're always "cracking down" on something or other (other than legitimate crime) -- and this time, it's monks. I told you those peeps were in trouble a few days ago. When I say "trouble" I mean -- BEEEG TRRRRROUBLE. We shall see -- but my Klowny senses say BEEEEG TRRROUBLE ... BEEEEG.

'They Come at Night and Murder the Monks'

In Yangon the killing goes on. Opponents of the regime and monks are falling victim to the junta's special forces by night. Diplomats assume that several hundred people have already been killed. Now even China is putting the military under pressure.

It was around midnight when the long convoy of military vehicles drove into the district. They contained police officers from the anti-insurgency unit and the so-called "Lome-Ten," a unit of gangsters and ex-convicts, who do the regime's dirty work.

They surrounded a monastery on Weiza Yandar Street. All the roughly 200 monks living there were forced to stand in a row and the security forces beat their heads against a brick wall. When they were all covered in blood and lay moaning on the ground, they were thrown into a truck and taken away. "We are crying for our monks," said the man, and then he was gone.

Anyway -- The Klown salutes the veteran who handled it without delay. Hey vet -- if they charge you, demand a jury trial ... OF YOUR PEERS.

OH yeah -- and PREDICTABLY -- who do you think got in the middle of this? Why -- the AACLU of course -- THAT'S RIGHT -- the AACLU -- the Anti-American Criminal Liberties Union.
Nevada ACLU Releases Statement on Mexican Flag Flying Over American FlagThe ACLU of Nevada has released a statement about recent media reports that it is "illegal" to fly foreign flags over the U.S. flag. The ACLU explains that while there is indeed a federal law regulating the display of the U.S. flag, that law is merely advisory and simply codifies standard government practice in displaying the American flag. I love how the AACLU has trouble discriminating between "Laws" and "Advisories."

Jackass is busted

Schools (in the U.K.) will have to issue a warning before they show pupils Al Gore's controversial film about global warming, a judge indicated yesterday.

The move follows a High Court action by a father who accused the Government of 'brainwashing' children with propaganda by showing it in the classroom.

Stewart Dimmock said the former U.S. Vice-President's documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, is unfit for schools because it is politically biased and contains serious scientific inaccuracies and 'sentimental mush'.

He wants the video banned after it was distributed with four other short films to 3,500 schools in February.

Mr Justice Burton is due to deliver a ruling on the case next week, but yesterday he said he would be saying that Gore's Oscar-winning film does promote 'partisan political views'.

This means that teachers will have to warn pupils that there are other opinions on global warming and they should not necessarily accept the views of the film.

He said: 'The result is I will be declaring that, with the guidance as now amended, it will not be unlawful for the film to be shown.' More here:

LMAO -- that is HYSTERICAL -- now when is someone going to sue in the U.S.?? Oh -- I forgot -- the libs have been packing the courts for 40 years -- he'd win easy.

Six Inconvenient Logical Fallacies
By: Nicole Belle
The entire op-ed is too long to cut and paste here, and a snippet would do it no justice. So for your amusement (or if you read the whole thing, as I did–stay away from sharp objects–revulsion), here are the bullet points upon which Medved makes his case, ironically entitled Six Inconvenient Truths:

1. Slavery was an ancient and universal institution, not a distinctively American innovation.

2. Slavery existed only briefly, and in limited locales, in the history of the republic - involving only a tiny percentage of the ancestors of today’s Americans.

3. Though brutal, slavery wasn’t genocidal: live slaves were valuable but dead captives brought no profit.

4. It’s not true that the U.S. became a wealthy nation through the abuse of slave labor: the most prosperous states in the country were those that first freed their slaves.

5. While America deserves no unique blame for the existence of slavery, the United States merits special credit for its rapid abolition.

6. There is no reason to believe that today’s African Americans would be better off if their ancestors had remained behind in Africa.

And then she says:
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the logic of a 29%er. And they wonder why the GOP doesn’t get the African American vote.

It seems to me she's calling him a liar -- or an idiot who should be silenced. Why? Did he not tell the truth? Perhaps he's a witch?? Someone educate me.

Oak Lawn Schools May Cancel Holiday Traditions
School District To Discuss Possible Cancellation Or Renaming Of Holiday Celebrations

(CBS) OAK LAWN, Ill. A southwest suburban school district has taken action, responding to the concerns of a parent who is Arabic.

But now, as CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports, other parents are angry that traditional school holidays will be renamed or even eliminated.

"That does not represent all the Muslims, all of the Arabs at that school," said Qais Nofel, the father of a student in Ridgeland School District 122.

There was some heated discussion between parents outside Columbus Manor Elementary School in Oak Lawn on Friday. The thought of no more traditional holiday celebrations has many parents really upset.

For now, children in Ridgeland School District 122 will celebrate fall festival instead of Halloween and winter festival instead of Christmas.

Brenda Elvidge said, "It's not fair to our kids. This is America and that's an American tradition."

The decision affects the children at four elementary schools in Oak Lawn and one junior high school in Bridgeview.

The district has a 30 percent Arabic population. The superintendent says the reason for the change in tradition comes after one parent wanted Ramadan decorations put up inside Columbus Manor Elementary. They were taken down.

Superintendent Tom Smyth said, "I go back to our policy which says that public schools are to remain neutral in this respect."

Meantime, Arab children are being allowed to pray during what's being called their own time, that's lunch time, during Ramadan.

Parent June Quigley said, "They get to pray in our schools. That is religion in a public school."

Arab-American parents have different views on the issue.

Sala Abour said, "To take away Halloween and Christmas from little kids, that is very wrong."

Nofel said, "We go and we celebrate the holidays and traditions here, but we do have the right to be Muslims as well."

Other parents say the controversy is overshadowing what really needs to be addressed at all five schools in the district.

Ronnie Carroll said, "The fact that they are cash strapped. Our classroom size is way above the average mean, 38 children in our first grade classroom. The concern should be our school, not the whole holiday issues."

Those issues along with the holiday controversy are going to be addressed at a school board meeting on Tuesday. Members will decide if holidays will be celebrated or not.

Meantime, the Illinois PTA district director says the state is now investigating this issue and there's a meeting with the superintendent next week.

Hey -- Americans -- you're getting exactly what you deserve. You have no values you can articulate or defend -- so be prepared to lose more and more of your "traditions" until you can do three things:
1 - Defend the purpose and value of the traditions in your own mind
2 - Organize yourselves and fight for them when necessary
3 - Stop allowing the liberals to pack the courts

But ... you'll never do that because you're too busy paying taxes (work Jan thru May just for the Govn't) to devote time to thinking, community organization, and other serious issues. You'll just sit there and wonder why -- why are others stealing all my stuff??

It's cuz I'm black, ain't it !!

LOST JOB 'OVER MY PERFUME'
October 1, 2007 -- She wore too much Red Door, so they showed her the door.

That's the claim of a Brooklyn woman who says she was fired as a customer-service rep because she wore too much perfume.

Jorinda Sullivan, 24, of Canarsie is suing her former employer, Mindpearl, a customer-service center in Melville, L.I., for $1 million in Brooklyn federal court, claiming that co-workers' complaints about her perfume morphed into thinly veiled racial discrimination.

After complaints about one perfume, Sullivan switched to Elizabeth Arden's signature Red Door - but said she was soon hauled back into the supervisor's office for the same reason.

Later, she was allegedly attacked over her personal hygiene and asked what soap, shampoo and deodorant she used.

At that point, she decided she was being harassed because she is black and complained to the state Division of Human Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In February, she was fired because, her boss said, she'd been the subject of three customer complaints the previous week.

Vincent Gaines, chairman and CEO of Mindpearl, said, "The company denies any wrongdoing and intends to continue to vigorously contest her claims."

This is one of the Klown's pet peeves -- peeps who wear too much "fragrance." Actually, I have NEVER really liked fragrances unless it's the "fragrance" of soap and water - or maybe one of those "cucumber-melon" type sprays.

Good essay by Ace

From Ace of Spades:

"The Good War" In Burma
—Ace

It's a Good War, to liberals and chin-strokers, because the US is doing absolutely nothing there to abate slaughter and tyranny. Which makes reporters and academics effectively our "front line" of defense -- which is how they want it. Their "defense" amounts for nothing, of course, and saves no lives and destroys no tyrant's bunkers, but they get to be the stars of this do-nothing immorality play, which is better than the non-college-educated morons in the US military who got stuck in Iraq getting to be the stars.

So we can all cluck, cluck about how horrible this all is and pretend that it matters a whit that we are collectively "horrified."

But it's a lie, because it doesn't matter how we feel about it. It's what we do about it that counts. And were Bush to announce airstrikes of opportunity on government forces tomorrow, the MSM and our very-concerned media and academic classes would suddenly find all of this not nearly as "horrifying" as they find it now.

Which isn't to say I advocate such an action (though neither do I oppose some low level of commitment to striking government troops and materiel and vehicles as targets may present themselves).

Just to note that, for the left, the proper way -- the only way -- to deal with brutal murderers and tyrants is to caterwaul about it and peacock-preen their pretty feathers of righteous indignation.

A Bit More: Compare the media's rather upfront branding of the insane Burmese regime as murderous with their solicitousness of Iran's madmen. The difference? There is a relatively low probability the US will intervene at all in Burma, whereas there's a somewhat higher likelihood that the US will bomb Iran. Thus it's "safe" to brand the Burmese murderers as vicious tyrants; the media can all take solace in the fact they're not contributing to belligerent action that might actually matter in the scheme of things. They can talk tough on Burma, without fear that their tough talk may impel tough action.

I think I see now why Allah was so down on the SNL Ahmadinejad spoofs. Because they minimize and trivialize the threat from Iran, and allow our bien pensants (sarcasm for "good thinkers") the opportunity to believe they've actually "struck a blow for liberty and dignity" by simply laughing at a buffoon. Having "done their bit" for a cause, the mass of Americans who would like to believe they're tough on tyranny but who are actually its greatest facilitators can sleep easy knowing they've advanced the cause of progressivism by chuckling along with some TV clowns.

Same deal with Jon Stewart. Oh, sure, he really zings some of the lunatics of the world's rogue regimes, and that's really all that's needed, isn't it? A few zingers, a few faked laughs. By our Mighty Mirthfulness shall we bring the tyrants to their knees, so long as doing so doesn't violate their national sovereignty. Or something.

Meanwhile the "bed-wetters" and "fear-mongers" who suggest that maybe we ought to actually do something about these bastards besides show our contempt are painted as the lunatics flip-side-of-the-coin equals in evil. So much easier to sit back and laugh, laugh, laugh at all the buffoonish thugs of the world than lower oneself to actually opposing them.

Incidentally, it strikes me as curious that the media has had relatively little to say about Ahmadinejad's frequent threats to nuke Israel but is only now takes (mocking, unserious) notice when they threaten gays. (Or more than threaten, of course, but the media and the smarties are too brave to note they're actually hanging gays. Safer to just euphemize it as "threaten.")

Not that we shouldn't be concerned about gays, of course. But once again we see the left's pecking order in the heirarchy of protected minorities. No big deal when Hizballah rains missiles onto Jewish cities, but claim there are no gays in Iran and it's on, baby.

And by "it's on, baby," they mean Iran has invited a terrible retribution of mockery upon it. Yeah, take it. Stings don't it, bitch?

Burma: Thousands dead in massacre of the monks dumped in the jungle

Thousands of protesters are dead and the bodies of hundreds of executed monks have been dumped in the jungle, a former intelligence officer for Burma's ruling junta has revealed.

The most senior official to defect so far, Hla Win, said: "Many more people have been killed in recent days than you've heard about. The bodies can be counted in several thousand."

Mr Win, who spoke out as a Swedish diplomat predicted that the revolt has failed, said he fled when he was ordered to take part in a massacre of holy men. He has now reached the border with Thailand. More here:

Dipshit Democrat keeps screwing up

Senator Robert Byrd - West Virginia

Many folks are picking on Democrat Senator Chris Dodd's remarks on Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, former KKK member, that he would have been "right during the Civil War" and comparing them to the Lott comments. Of course, Dodd can say that the Byrd of today would have chosen the right side during the Civil War.

Just last year, though, Byrd had an opportunity to make a choice. The Senator representing the Union state of West Virginia chose to suit up for the Confederacy.

Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd, Ex-Klansman
by Michelle Malkin (March 8, 2001)

Ex-Klansman Robert Byrd, the senior senator from West Virginia, casually used the phrase "white nigger" twice on national TV this weekend. Enraged civil rights groups organized a protest campaign against Sen. Byrd and demanded that he undergo sensitivity training ... not.

The ex-Klansman, you see, is a Democrat. Democrats can join hate groups and utter the ugliest racial slurs and get away with it because they are Democrats. They belong to the party of racial tolerance and understanding. They're paragons of virtue, and the rest of us are bigoted rubes.

The ex-Klansman showed his true colors when asked by Fox News Sunday morning talk show host Tony Snow about the state of race relations in America. Sen. Byrd warned: "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I'm going to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I'd just as soon quit talking about it so much."
Yes, I'll bet ... and wipe the pablum off your chin, jackass.

Yeah -- I think he's 87 years old and he's running for another term -- sheesh.
