Caring government (EPA) cracks down on the evil Amish

LANCASTER, Pa. — With simplicity as their credo, Amish farmers consume so little that some might consider them model environmental citizens.

“We are supposed to be stewards of the land,” said Matthew Stoltzfus, a 34-year-old dairy farmer and father of seven whose family, like many other Amish, shuns cars in favor of horse and buggy and lives without electricity. “It is our Christian duty.”

But farmers like Mr. Stoltzfus are facing growing scrutiny for agricultural practices that the federal government sees as environmentally destructive. Their cows generate heaps of manure that easily washes into streams and flows onward into the Chesapeake Bay.

And the Environmental Protection Agency, charged by President Obama with restoring the bay to health, is determined to crack down. The farmers have a choice: change the way they farm or face stiff penalties. More at the NYT:

 As a direct result of her idiotic comments regarding Israel, Helen Thomas is retiring. I guess she thinks that'll make it all go away. Reminds me of another Lib journalist, Dan Rather, who also had a long career in journalism and also retired in shame.

Police discovered six dead bodies in a cavern near the tourist resort of Cancun on Sunday, three of them cut open and their hearts removed.

Authorities are investigating the identities of the four men and two women found dead in the natural cave, said Francisco Alor, the Quintana Roo state attorney general.

"They were apparently tortured and their chests were opened to remove the hearts," Alor's office said later in a statement.

Three of the bodies had the letter "Z" carved on their abdomens- a possible reference to the Zeta drug gang, though officials did not make an explicit connection to cartel violence that has plagued many parts of Mexico.

More than 22,700 people have died nationwide in drug violence since late 2006, when President Felipe Calderon sent soldiers and federal police to battle the cartels.

Also Sunday, armed men in two cars barged into a girl's coming-out party in the southwestern town of Coyuca de Catalan, sparking a deadly gunbattle.

Some of those attending the "quinceanera" celebration were also armed and returned fire, Guerrero state police said in a statement. Two partygoers and one attacker were killed, while three people were wounded.

Police have not yet determined a motive, but the area is plagued by drug trafficking.

Drug dealers everywhere wish to express their gratitude by sending monetary donations but their offers were declined because, "What kind of people do you think we are?". Of course, the donors were later directed toward the investigators' favorite charities... in the investigators' names.

Criminal ALMOST walks away with no punishment

This isn't the actual stun gun that was used.  It's just the coolest looking one I could find in five seconds of searching.

EMECULA, Calif. -- An angry father is accused of using a stun gun on a 23 year old man who sent his 17 year old daughter an explicit cell phone picture.

William Atwood Sr., 45, was charged Wednesday with multiple felonies in connection with the case.

Authorities say Atwood lured Justin Moore to his home, ordered him to strip down to his boxer shorts, and tied him up and tased him with a stun gun before turning him over to a sheriff's deputy.

Moore told authorities he sent a photo of his genitals to several friends, including Atwood's daughter, as a joke.

Atwood apparently didn't think the joke was funny when his daughter told him about the picture in January.

According to court records, Atwood called the Sheriff's Department saying that Moore sent pornography to a child. More at FOX 31 KDVR::

Sure, convict the dad and let the other guy off.  This seems to be standard American justice these days.  I'm guessing that even though this guy is going to get away with it, he won't do it again, whereas if it weren't for dad, this guy WOULD do it again.   Funny, huh?  I wish I could get on some of these juries.

Obama, very busy crushing capitalism and "big oil"

Bipartisan pressure is building on the Obama administration to reconsider its ban on new offshore drilling, with Gulf lawmakers decrying the moratorium as an overreaction to the BP oil spill that will compound the economic damage the disaster is inflicting on their states.

Lawmakers and industry groups warn that the moratorium could cost thousands of jobs and drain hundreds of millions of dollars out of the local economy. That's on top of the billions of dollars studies predict could be lost from hits to the tourism and fishing industries along the Gulf.

President Obama, in an interview Thursday, defended the decision as necessary to give officials time to figure out what went wrong before the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded April 20 -- killing 11 workers and triggering the historic leak -- and how to prevent such a disaster from happening again.

"Until that happens, it would be irresponsible of me to lift that moratorium," Obama said on CNN. More at FOX News::

Uh, hey boys, perhaps you think Obama is just being cautious.  After all, he says he's just being cautious ... it's just a coincidence that his caution is in line with the liberal dream ... crush capilitalism any way possible.  Keep voting for the libs though.  You'll have plenty of time to make it to the polls without that pesky job of yours getting in the way.

I don't know if you're in the habit of watching this channel or not, but Mark Haines is the old guy on the set. By his past behavior on the show, you'd think he had tenure or something. He represents their throwback to the old days and while he's not particularly sharp or on the ball, he makes up for it by making off the cuff remarks you'd expect to hear from a garbage collector when he thought nobody was listening. He's the guy from Staten Island at a Manhattan party who keeps insisting that everyone loosen their ties and lighten up but doesn't understand why nobody seems to want him around.

Glenn Beck is treading on thin ice.

He keeps using Lib tactics to make his point. He sticks so closely to his ideology that he ignores logic and facts to make his point. Add that to the fact that he turns a blind eye to what his self-proclaimed "enemies" have to say and he's looking annoyingly Liberal. Of course, he still gets the ratings which is decidedly un-Liberalist but if he keeps this up, that won't last very long at all.

Anyway, despite its relatively simple nature, the effect it holds is more than entertaining. Here’s what you have to do to understand the illusion: observe the 4 little moving dots. As they move further away one from another (expand – if you wish), and when their path crosses bigger circle’s surface – the ghostly contours appear. It seems as if the smaller dots represented a corners of an expanding and shrinking square. In reality, there are no contours present, and they were only placed here by our brain who struggles to interpret the animation. It is well known that the visual system will often generate illusory contours and surfaces in order to fill-in this missing information. It is widely believed that the visual system does this in order to provide the best overall explanation of the images that form in our eyes.

The prize McCartney was given is the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, a lifetime achievement award bestowed by the Library of Congress.

McCartney ended the evening taking a baseless cheap shot at former President George W. Bush.

“After the last eight years, it’s great to have a President who knows what a library is,” McCartney quipped.
