Brain-dead liberals

So this guy, David Mamet, is a playwright. He wrote an article entitled "Why I am no longer a brain-dead liberal." I have excerpted some here. (Bold is mine.)

I took the liberal view for many decades, but I believe I have changed my mind.

As a child of the '60s, I accepted as an article of faith that government is corrupt, that business is exploitative, and that people are generally good at heart.

These cherished precepts had, over the years, become ingrained as increasingly impracticable prejudices. Why do I say impracticable? Because although I still held these beliefs, I no longer applied them in my life. How do I know? My wife informed me. We were riding along and listening to NPR. I felt my facial muscles tightening, and the words beginning to form in my mind: Shut the fuck up. "?" she prompted. And her terse, elegant summation, as always, awakened me to a deeper truth: I had been listening to NPR and reading various organs of national opinion for years, wonder and rage contending for pride of place. Further: I found I had been—rather charmingly, I thought—referring to myself for years as "a brain-dead liberal," and to NPR as "National Palestinian Radio."

This is, to me, the synthesis of this worldview with which I now found myself disenchanted: that everything is always wrong.

But in my life, a brief review revealed, everything was not always wrong, and neither was nor is always wrong in the community in which I live, or in my country. Further, it was not always wrong in previous communities in which I lived, and among the various and mobile classes of which I was at various times a part.

And, I wondered, how could I have spent decades thinking that I thought everything was always wrong at the same time that I thought I thought that people were basically good at heart? Which was it? I began to question what I actually thought and found that I do not think that people are basically good at heart; indeed, that view of human nature has both prompted and informed my writing for the last 40 years. I think that people, in circumstances of stress, can behave like swine, and that this, indeed, is not only a fit subject, but the only subject, of drama.

I'd observed that lust, greed, envy, sloth, and their pals are giving the world a good run for its money, but that nonetheless, people in general seem to get from day to day; and that we in the United States get from day to day under rather wonderful and privileged circumstances—that we are not and never have been the villains that some of the world and some of our citizens make us out to be, but that we are a confection of normal (greedy, lustful, duplicitous, corrupt, inspired—in short, human) individuals living under a spectacularly effective compact called the Constitution, and lucky to get it.

For the Constitution, rather than suggesting that all behave in a godlike manner, recognizes that, to the contrary, people are swine and will take any opportunity to subvert any agreement in order to pursue what they consider to be their proper interests.

To that end, the Constitution separates the power of the state into those three branches which are for most of us (I include myself) the only thing we remember from 12 years of schooling.

The Constitution, written by men with some experience of actual government, assumes that the chief executive will work to be king, the Parliament will scheme to sell off the silverware, and the judiciary will consider itself Olympian and do everything it can to much improve (destroy) the work of the other two branches. So the Constitution pits them against each other, in the attempt not to achieve stasis, but rather to allow for the constant corrections necessary to prevent one branch from getting too much power for too long.

Rather brilliant. For, in the abstract, we may envision an Olympian perfection of perfect beings in Washington doing the business of their employers, the people, but any of us who has ever been at a zoning meeting with our property at stake is aware of the urge to cut through all the pernicious bullshit and go straight to firearms. The rest here:

I found this article because I was reading on this page by a guy who keeps track of these types of things in the entertainment world ... a sort of "critic's critic" if you will. Anyway, what I got from the "critic's" article is that David Mamet is doomed. He used to be critically acclaimed as a genius and has written many plays but now that he's "outed" himself, all the play critics will hammer him relentlessly.

The Federal Government Is ON THE JOB!!

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has stripped Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of his authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status. More here:

WOW! Well done, Janet Napolitano & "Homeland Security!!" After all, we don't want sheriffs going around arresting illegal aliens, right? Fucking idiots. How in the hell do these people get elected/appointed? I ask you. It's as if they go out of their way to do the exact opposite of what they SHOULD do. Keep voting for liberals, dumbasses. How you likin' your employment opportunities now? You know what you need? You need more illegal aliens snagging jobs.

Mojave Desert cross & the Supreme Court

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeuBB_mOFIA

This first came to my attention in the Sep issue of the American Legion mag. I read the article and looked at the video that the Legion put out. ( I think the Legion video is more informative but it is longer, you can view it at http://www.legion.org/)
As you will see in the video the ACLU, picked this place in the middle of nowhere thinking no one would bother about making a big ado about it, but as you will learn it did make a big ado and is now going before the Supreme Court 7 oct 09. This would be a big foot in the door for the ACLU, to no doubt start removing all crosses from State & Fed grounds.

Ahhhh - HA !!

So I was doing some research because I wanted to know how "curing meat" worked. I learned some about it ... how it works ... why it works etc ... and whilst doing this research I also happened upon the answer to another question I've had, lo, these many years ... "Why do they call corned beef, 'corned'." Mystery solv-ed.

'Salt beef' in the UK and Commonwealth as a cured and boiled foodstuff is sometimes known as 'Corned beef' elsewhere, though traditional salt beef is different in taste and preparation. The use of the term corned comes from the fact that the Middle English word corn could refer to grains of salt as well as cereal grains.

Barack Obama and the CIA: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

By Gerald Warner Telegraph.co.uk

If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people – not even Jimmy Carter.
Obama’s problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens. He has never abandoned the campaign trail.
That is why he opened Pandora’s Box by publishing the Justice Department’s legal opinions on waterboarding and other hardline interrogation techniques. He cynically subordinated the national interest to his partisan desire to embarrass the Republicans. Then he had to rush to Langley, Virginia to try to reassure a demoralised CIA that had just discovered the President of the United States was an even more formidable foe than al-Qaeda.
“Don’t be discouraged by what’s happened the last few weeks,” he told intelligence officers. Is he kidding? Thanks to him, al-Qaeda knows the private interrogation techniques available to the US intelligence agencies and can train its operatives to withstand them – or would do so, if they had not already been outlawed.
So, next time a senior al-Qaeda hood is captured, all the CIA can do is ask him nicely if he would care to reveal when a major population centre is due to be hit by a terror spectacular, or which American city is about to be irradiated by a dirty bomb. Your view of this situation will be dictated by one simple criterion: whether or not you watched the people jumping from the twin towers.
Obama promised his CIA audience that nobody would be prosecuted for past actions. That has already been contradicted by leftist groups with a revanchist ambition to put Republicans, headed if possible by Condoleezza Rice, in the dock. Talk about playing party politics with national security. Martin Scheinin, the United Nations special investigator for human rights, claims that senior figures, including former vice president Dick Cheney, could face prosecution overseas. Ponder that – once you have got over the difficulty of locating the United Nations and human rights within the same dimension.
President Pantywaist Obama should have thought twice before sitting down to play poker with Dick Cheney. The former vice president believes documents have been selectively published and that releasing more will prove how effective the interrogation techniques were. Under Dubya’s administration, there was no further atrocity on American soil after 9/11.
President Pantywaist’s recent world tour, cosying up to all the bad guys, excited the ambitions of America’s enemies. Here, they realised, is a sucker they can really take to the cleaners. His only enemies are fellow Americans. Which prompts the question: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

Maybe I need to apologize, no I think not. I would love to hear a recording of the next interview conducted on a captured terrorist (sorry I hope I did not offend anyone with that word) (I'm not talking about a teabagger either)

What? I was just mentoring them, sheesh.

A former judge is facing life in prison after being charged with sexually abusing male inmates in exchange for leniency.

Respected circuit judge Herman Thomas, who was once the Democratic Party’s choice to be the first black federal judge in south Alabama, is accused of bringing inmates to his office and spanking them with a paddle. What? He's a Democrat and they said so in the article? Will wonders never cease?

His trial for charges of sodomy, kidnapping, sex abuse, extortion, assault and ethics violations is set to begin today.

The 48-year-old insists he is innocent and claims he was trying to mentor the inmates. Yes, mentoring ... a lot of that going around.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a leading civil rights group, has defended Thomas and claims race is behind his prosecution. Oh oh, holy smoke ... racism.

Communing with nature - so wonderful

A northeastern Pennsylvania woman, whose husband is an exotic pet dealer operating on an expired license, was mauled to death by a black bear over the weekend. Yes, it's "relevant" that the guy's license was expired. The jourrrrnalist is probably trying to tell us that a current license would have prevented this tragedy.

Authorities say Kelly Ann Walz, 37, of Ross Township in Monroe County, was attacked by her 350 pound pet bear while cleaning its cage at about 5 p.m. Sunday. Walz had reportedly thrown a shovelful of dog food to one side of the cage to distract the bear while she cleaned the other side, but the animal turned on her and attacked.

This is NOT the bear in question but I'll bet he's just as cute.

Walz's children and the neighbor's children saw the attack and summoned help, and the neighbor shot and killed the bear while it was atop Walz, said Tim Conway, an information and education supervisor with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

"Why this woman chose to go in the same area that the bear was in is beyond me. It's a fatal mistake," he said. "These things are not tame animals, they're wild animals." More here:

Wrong, Tim Conway. They're only wild if they're not in cages, dumbass. This was a tame bear. The attack was a bolt from the blue ... no way to have seen it coming ... one in a million I tell ya. You tightasses ... always with the 20-20 hindsight.

Liberal mayor exposes true feelings

A network of private and public surveillance cameras, license plate readers and weapons sensors already established in Lower Manhattan as an electronic bulwark against terrorist attacks will soon expand to a large patch of Midtown Manhattan, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said Sunday as they announced the allocation of $24 million in Homeland Security grants toward the effort.

The plan devised to protect downtown Manhattan, known as the Lower Manhattan Security Initiative, was introduced by Mr. Kelly in 2005. That raised concern among civil liberties groups, which have called for more public discussion as the police peer, with greater intensity, at more corners of the city.

Asked Sunday about criticism of the increased surveillance, Mr. Bloomberg said: “We live in a world where we have to have a balance. We can’t just say everybody can go everyplace and do anything they want.” More here:

Noooo. We can't have that? The founding fathers wouldn't have wanted that.

So they want to let everyone with a "hate America" attitude to come to the United States, right? But once they get here, THEN they can't go anywhere and do anything they want, right? Have I got that about right? In other words, forget protecting the borders, let's just let everyone come here THEN worry about them. Tricky ... very tricky. I see the genius in your moves now.

United Nations Uncovers Great Threat

Hey ... you know the middle east? Terrorists and jackasses abound, right?

Dictators and tyrants everywhere. Women oppressed into wearing fucking burkas. "Fashion police" on the streets of nations. Committees exist for "Virtue and Vice" ... deciding for all who's naughty and nice. Al Qaeda bombing the everloving shit out of nations everywhere. Elections getting stolen by midget dictators who are developing nuclear weapons ... political opponents who dare to demonstrate getting thrown in the gulag. I could go on and on but I already did.

Well my friends, it appears there's a bigger threat ... MUCH bigger ... and the United Nations (IAEA) has identified it.

TEHRAN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei said Sunday that "Israel is number one threat to Middle East" with its nuclear arms, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"Israel is the number one threat to the Middle East given the nuclear arms it possesses," ElBaradei was quoted as saying. More here:

Yes, I know the IAEA was formed "independently" of the UN -- but it REPORTS to the UN ... capisky?

Anyway, they've figured out the NUMBER ONE THREAT to the middle east ... and guess what ... IT'S THE GD JUICE ... AGAIN!!!
Way to go, "Mohamed." This comes as a shocker to us all.

How you likin' your team NOW?

Conan v. Newark

A feud has begun between the Mayor of Newark, NJ, Corey A. Booker, and Conan O'brien. About a week ago Conan made a joke during his opening monologue; "The Mayor of Newark, NJ wants to set up a city wide program to improve residents health. The health care program would consist of a bus ticket out of Newark." Mayor Booker felt this was an incredible slap in the cities face and immediately placed O'brien on Newark's no fly list.

Well Conan, being the bigger man, responded by banning the Mayor from flying into the Burbank airport. The mayor came back by saying he wanted to bury the hatchet and settle this like men, by having a footrace. And to make matters worse the mayor offered him a helmet in case he falls, this made reference to an accident on Conan's show last Friday in which during a sketch with their guest Teri Hatcher, Conan lost his footing and fell slamming his head on the floor. The hit to the head was so bad that the show had to be canceled and he was sent to the hospital with a concussion.

In a video by Mayor Booker, Conan was informed that after to speaking with all 566 municipalities, he has now been banned from the state of New Jersey. Although this feud, on the side of Conan's show, is just great comedy. Mayor Booker is spending a little to much time on this subject and taking it to extremes that are just plain ridiculous. And even though it has made me laugh, and has become a great week long late night soap opera, it has also brought something to my attention. Not only is NJ a smelly eyesore, but now I know they don't have a sense of humor.

A cowboy from Texas attends a social function where Barack Obama is trying to gather more support for his Health Plan. Once he discovers the cowboy is from President Bush’s home area, he starts to belittle him by talking in a southern drawl and single syllable words.
As he was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head. The cowboy says, "Y'all havin' some problem with them circle flies?"
Obama stopped talking and said, "Well, yes, if that's what they're called, but I've never heard of circle flies."
"Well Sir," the cowboy replies, "circle flies hang around ranches. They're called circle flies because they're almost always found circling around the back end of a horse."
"Oh," Obama replies as he goes back to rambling. But, a moment later he stops and bluntly asks, "Are you calling me a horse's ass?"
"No, Sir," the cowboy replies, "I have too much respect for the citizens of this country to call their President a horse's ass."
"That's a good thing," Obama responds and begins rambling on once more.
After a long pause, the cowboy, in his best Texas drawl says, "Hard to fool them flies, though."

The Stimulus is working !!!

WASHINGTON (AP) - The unemployment rate hasn't topped 10 percent since June 1983, but it could return to that painful level soon - possibly as early as Friday, when the Labor Department issues its monthly jobs report.

Even as the economy shows signs of life, some employers are still cutting jobs, and many more are reluctant to hire after enduring the worst recession since the 1930s.

A return to 10 percent unemployment could pose political problems for President Barack Obama, who pushed through an ambitious $787 billion stimulus package in February intended to "save or create" 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. The administration said earlier this month about 1 million jobs have been saved so far. More here:Ok, 787 billion saved 1 million jobs. By my calculations, that's $787,000 per job saved. If he keeps saving jobs, we'll ALL be broke. Oh, I'm sorry, we're already broke and just printing money to pay for it. That won't cause inflation will it?

This calculation took deep thought and advanced mathematics. That's probably why the libs can't undercapisky it.

Big fat doofus still acting like jackass

(CNSNews.com) -- Documentary film director Michael Moore, who has become a millionaire thanks to the profits from his movies, told CNSNews.com that “capitalism did nothing” for him.

CNSNews.com spoke with Moore on the red carpet at the Uptown Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night before the premiere of his upcoming documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story." More here:

And this guy puts the obvious bitch-slap/smackdown on fat boy. In a piece called "Lying Propaganda," Walter E Williams quothe the following : (bold is mine)

Michael Moore’s new film, “Capitalism: A Love Story” will be released next month. I’ve neither seen nor read reviews of the film, except for a short piece in the London Telegraph (9/6/09) titled “Michael Moore film calls capitalism evil.”

Aware of Michael Moore’s previous films, I know that it will be at best a misleading story about capitalism. So let’s do some defensive mental preparation, not about the film but what is and what is not capitalism.

Capitalism is an economic system characterized by private ownership and control over the means of production. The distribution of goods and services and their prices are mainly determined by competition in a free market. Under such a system the primary job of government is to protect private property, enforce contracts and ensure rule of law.

There has never been a pure free market capitalistic system just as there has never been a pure communist or socialist system, where there is government ownership of the means of production and each individual has equal access to society’s resources. However, we can rank economies as to whether they are closer to capitalism or closer to communism or socialism.

If one ranked countries according to whether they were closer to the capitalistic end of the spectrum or the socialistic or communistic end, then ranked countries according to per capita GDP and finally rank countries according to Freedom House’s “Map of Freedom in the World,” he would find a pattern that is by no means a coincidence. The people in those countries closer to the capitalist end of the economic spectrum have far greater income and enjoy greater human rights protections than those toward the socialist and communist end.

According to the London Telegraph article, Moore’s film features priests who say capitalism is anti-Christian by failing to protect the poor. This is pure nonsense and revealed as such by asking, “If you’re an unborn spirit, condemned by God to a life of poverty but allowed to choose the country in which to be poor, would you choose a country near the communist end of the economic spectrum or the capitalist end?”

If you chose the United States, you’d find that according to the government surveys, the typical “poor” American has cable or satellite TV, two color TVs, and a DVD player or VCR. He has air conditioning, a car, a microwave, a refrigerator, a stove, and a clothes washer and dryer, and whether he has health insurance or not, he is able to obtain medical care when needed.

Try to find that in Cuba, Russia, China or North Korea. If we buy into the nonsense of Moore’s priests, the world’s poor people are incredibly stupid. Whether fleeing legally or illegally, their destination country is likely to be closer to capitalism than their departure country.

Most of our country’s serious problems can be laid at the feet of Congress and the White House and not at capitalism. Take the financial crisis. One-third of the $15 trillion of mortgages in existence in 2008 are owned, or securitized by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, the Federal Housing and the Veterans Administration.

Banks didn’t mind making risky loans (which were forced upon them by laws requiring them to make risky loans to poor people, and ACORN threatening lawsuits if the banks didn't follow the laws) and Wall Street buyers didn’t mind buying these repackaged loans because they assumed that they would be guaranteed by the federal government: read bailout by taxpayers. Under a capitalist system, financial institutions would not have been intimidated or encouraged into making risky loans and neither would they have been bailed out if they did so.

Social Security, Medicare and its coverage of prescription drugs have an unfunded liability that exceeds $100 trillion. When those roosters come home to roost, they will make the financial meltdown we’ve been though look like child’s play.

Not withstanding all of the demagoguery, it is capitalism not socialism is that made us a great country and its socialism that will be our undoing.

Nice job, Walter.
