AAA warns that spare tires are going extinct

No one likes changing a flat tire. In fact, just storing the spare can be a problem: if it's inside the vehicle, it can take up valuable cargo space, and if it's kept outside, it may prevent you from using bike racks or other accessories. But AAA says that thanks to new fuel economy regulations, we may not have to worry about either of those things much longer, since spare tires could soon disappear altogether.

We've spilled a lot of ink discussing the new fuel economy rules handed down by the Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency. Those regulations will require average fuel economy to hit 34.1 mpgs by 2016 and 54.5 mpgs by 2025.

Automakers have a number of tools at their disposal to help them reach those goals -- for example, hybrid and electric powertrains. But reducing the weight of vehicles is also important, because as every carbon fiber fan will tell you, reducing weight is an easy way to boost fuel efficiency.

In recent years, much of that weight has been coming out of the trunk. It's increasingly rare to find full-size spares in many vehicles, and in their place are lighter "donuts", which aren't meant to travel long distances or at high speeds. AAA says that the new fuel economy rules could make even these pint-size spares go the way of the dodo, leaving vehicle owners with run-flat tires (which can go limited distances when punctured) or fix-a-flat kits (which work fine on small holes, but do little or nothing for bigger problems, much less blowouts). Gallup state numbers predict huge Obama loss

Gallup released their annual state-by-state presidential approval numbers yesterday, and the results should have 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue very worried. If President Obama carries only those states where he had a net positive approval rating in 2011 (e.g. Michigan where he is up 48 percent to 44 percent), Obama would lose the 2012 election to the Republican nominee 323 electoral votes to 215. As the recession continues onward, House Republicans are worried that those receiving welfare payments may be having a bit too good of a time.

The chamber will again vote Wednesday on a bill which would ensure that electronic withdrawals of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families dollars aren't allowed to be withdrawn from ATMs at strip clubs, casinos or liquor stores. TANF replaced national welfare programs after the welfare reforms of 1996.

The measure, sponsored by Louisiana Republican Rep. Charles Boustany, had originally been approved by the House in December as part of a larger funding measure for welfare programs, but it was dropped from the final law. Now, it will get a stand-alone vote, along with several other measures which face an uncertain future in the Senate.

"The abuse of [electronic benefits transfer] cards must stop," Boustany said when the measure was first proposed in December. More here

In Polk County , Florida ,(a shitbag) who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop, ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including twice behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed. A state-wide manhunt ensued.
The murderer was found hiding in a wooded area. As soon as he took a shot at the SWAT team, officers opened fire on him. They hit the guy 68 times.
When asked by the media why 68 times, Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel: "Because that's all the ammunition we had." Now, is that just about the all-time greatest answer or what!

A pilot died Monday after he was struck in the head by a moving airplane propeller, according to officials.

The single-engine plane pilot was struck in the head after he got out of his aircraft in the ramp area of Gillespie Field in El Cajon east of San Diego.

Gordon Woodard, 41, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries where he died later, according to airport spokesperson Ian Gregor.

Woodard realized the engine had stalled after pulling it out of the hangar."We believe he got out of the plane to manually start the propeller," said Gregor in a statement.

"When the propeller engaged, it struck him in the head."In the aviation industry, starting the engine manually is called "hot propping," and is generally considered very dangerous.More here:

North Carolina prepares to punish new witches

Well, I've always said that criminals run from the police because it makes perfect sense to do so. "Charged with" does not mean "convicted of." Any extra penalties they might incur will invariably be plea bargained to nothing. When is the last time you heard of anyone having to serve more prison time for running from the police? Right.

So along comes the North Carolina legislature. I know you can't believe this but, bad-daggit, they went and found themselves a witch. That's right, a witch. And we can steal from witches and nobody will say anything ... oh, it's so sweet.

The North Carolina state government will implement the “Run and You’re Done” law beginning December 1 2011. Governor Bev Perdue signed the bill into law on June 23. This new law allows North Carolina to seize the vehicle of anyone convicted of felony speeding to elude.

The vehicle would then be auctioned off to the highest bidder, bringing revenue to the police agency responsible for the seizure. The entity responsible for selling the vehicle will keep seizure fees and sales fees. (Ha ha, of course, these "entities" won't be friends with the cops, judges, or politicians.) Then the remainder of the profit will be distributed to the county government like a normal fine. LOL -- "the profit."

Under the new law, the seized vehicle can be sold even if the actual owner of the vehicle is unaware of its use for speeding (Uh, excuse me? Does that sound "right" to you? Isn't this always the way with idiot politicians?). Police will need to place a legal advertisement in the newspaper on two occasions and paste up three handbills near the place of seizure before selling the car. (What? No requirement for dancing an Irish jig at midnight, on a full moon, while swinging a dead cat over your head?) In total, the process can be done in 24 days. A provision has been put in place forbidding the sale of highly modified performance vehicles. (Huh?) The modified vehicles are to be “turned over to such governmental agency or public official within the territorial jurisdiction of the court as the court shall see fit, to be used in the performance of official duties only.” (Sure, that doesn't seem one bit incongruous or gratuitous.)

Can't you just imagine the cops dancing with glee after they get to keep some guy's "highly modified performance vehicle."

While I agree that running from justice is a crime, I do NOT believe the government should just start stealing the person's money and/or property (unless it's going DIRECTLY to recompense a victim of their crime.) And while my guess is existing laws hamper the police's ability to profit by fines, these new laws have opened the doors of profit wide open.

You know how local communities profit from "drunk drivers?" Well, this is the cop's "piece of the pie." That's right, they liked it so much stealing the drug people's (also witches) cars that they decided to apply that same principle to other witches.

I'd much rather that a dangerous idiot be kept in jail for longer periods than let out early with the local police dept snagging a souped up Corvette. What a bunch of bullshit. And the best part is it's all done right in front of your face.

The thing is, I think criminals should pay and pay dearly for running from the police. I mean, these asshats are running away from the guys I'm paying to keep the streets safe. Ok? You don't run from my guys, jackass.

On the other hand, if you let the police/government profit from fining criminals, where you do think that road leads? I'll give you an example. First "being under the influence" was defined as having a blood alcohol level of .15 ... then it went to .12 ... then to .10 ... now it's at .08 ... and they fine with abandon, my friends ... everybody is in on it ... the lawyers, judges, cops, everyone ... it's a HUGE party.

The semiofficial Fars news agency says blogger Saeed Malekpour was found guilty of promoting pornographic sites. It says the Supreme Court approved the death sentence handed down by a Revolutionary Court that deals with security crimes.

War Horse Movie Review

It was a few days ago that a friend of mine mentioned the movie (I forget the context or whether he liked it etc) but he knew it was not my habit to watch movies so he suggested I Google it. This was the first review I found.

To those who roll their eyes at the movie War Horse being nominated this week for a Best Picture Academy Award, let me say this: The movie is not, as some of those who haven't seen it suggest, just another sentimental story about a boy and his horse. It is not even primarily about a horse in the sense that the original British stage play is.

The cinematic version is much more. It is a story about the greed of the wealthy ...

And that was enough. I stopped reading right there. Looks like the standard Hollywood leftist brainwashing to me ... "evil rich" and so forth. Please, spare me the communist clap-trap. No wonder they're considering it for an academy award. What a coincidence, huh?

Danny Hembree. Convicted, and given the death penalty for the murder of 17-year old Heather Catterton in Gastonia, NC. Because a physician's presence is mandatory before/during/after the execution, and the North Carolina Medical Board has threatened action to any MD that participates in an execution, no Doctor has stepped forth to be the guy. Makes me want to go to Med School.
And...
North Carolina has the Racial Justice Act. In a nutshell, it states, that if the victim is a white woman, she is in the least likely segment to be murdered because of her race, so the death penalty is off the table.

MOHNTON, Pa. -- A 65-year-old man was attacked by three boys in Berks County on Wednesday and shot two of them, killing a 16-year-old boy.

The man was riding his bicycle about 11 a.m. on the Thun Trail near the Bertolet Fishing Dock in West Reading when the boys knocked him off his bicycle in an apparent robbery attempt, police said.

Two of the boys were assaulting the man when he pulled a handgun and shot them, police said.

Oh man, I'd LOVE to be able to see the look on their faces when he pulled that pistol and started shooting. I'm guessing that one day, technology will advance to a point where we'll all be able to video everything we see without holding a camera at all times. A 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The other boy was taken to an area hospital with a single gunshot wound and is expected to survive.

Police said they took the uninjured boy and the victim to the Cumru Township police station for questioning.

They consulted Berks County District Attorney John Adams, released the victim and sent the boy to the Youth Detention Center.The name of the boys and the man were not released. From here:

So I'm driving home from work yesterday and the news comes on the radio ... and this story assaults my ears/brain with a great vigor ... yes, a vigor so great that I'd call it a "Vigah." Shook me to to "Co-uh."

Newt Gingrich, courting voters in Florida’s NASA-heavy “Space Coast,” pledged to build an American lunar colony within eight years if elected president.

“By the end of my second term we will have the first permanent base on the moon and it will be American,” he said. According to Gingrich, the base would be used for “science, tourism, and manufacturing” and create a “robust industry” that would grow “precisely on the model of the airlines in the 1930s.”

The speech was a direct challenge to Mitt Romney, who has accused Gingrich of favoring big government with his past proposals for lunar exploration and colonization.

Well, at first blush, I'm going to have to agree with Romney on this one. I mean, here we are, in the greatest recession/depression in history and Gingrich talks about squandering more money. And I thought, "what in the hell is that guy doing?"

DAYTONA BEACH -- A 22-year-old car theft suspect tried to elude police Tuesday morning, but was stopped in his tracks when he was confronted by a gun-toting 64-year-old woman.

"I was not going to let him go," said Karen Granville, who lives on Redwood Street. "I just held my gun in my right hand until the police arrested him."

Granville helped authorities nab Roderick Willis after he led them on a short chase. He was suspected of driving a stolen vehicle, authorities said.

Daytona Beach police were looking for a stolen vehicle about 3 a.m. Tuesday when a Volusia County sheriff's deputy spotted an orange Dodge Charger traveling west on Sixth Street. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but a chase quickly ensued, according to a report from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's helicopter tracked the suspect to Redwood Street, where deputies say Willis ditched the vehicle in the driveway in front of Granville's home.

A Rockville Centre attorney is under arrest after allegedly holding a suspected teenage prankster at gunpoint until officers arrived at her home Sunday night, Nassau County police said.

Bernadette Greenwald, 47, apparently lost her cool after someone repeatedly rang her doorbell and ran from the home around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

The “ding, dong, ditch” prank was apparently carried out three times and after the last incident, police said Greenwald, a former Bronx Assistant District Attorney, grabbed her .9 mm pistol and fired one round into the air in front of her house.

Police said Greenwald later saw a 17-year-old boy walking in front of her N. Forest Avenue home. She allegedly approached the teen and pointed the gun at him. Greenwald’s husband, a retired Air Force pilot apparently returned home to discover the youth inside his home.

“[Greenwald's husband] arrived during the incident. He did see his wife with a gun. It’s a licensed gun, it is registered to her. In the house with the wife holding the gun, He pulled the kid outside the house, and waited for the police,” attorney Mitchell Barnett said.

According to court papers, a 17-year-old teen testified “I had 5 or 6 beers” and then walked towards the Greenwald’s home. “A woman appeared at the front door with a gun,” papers said. “I was scared…I put my hands up in the air.”

The teen’s shaken mother told CBS 2′s Jennifer McLogan: “I’m very emotional right now. My son did not do anything wrong.”

Greenwald has been charged with menacing, reckless endangerment and prohibited use of a dangerous weapon. The married mother of two declined to comment on her arrest when reached by 1010 WINS.

Barnett, said his client was home alone with her two children Sunday night and felt threatened. He also contended that the teenager had been found loitering on the Greenwald property in the past. From here:

Jay Leno thought he was poking gentle fun at the lifestyles of rich and famous Republican presidential candidates — Mitt Romney in particular. But last Thursday when Leno’s slide show came to a location cited as Mitt Romney’s summer home — in reality an image of the Sikh holy shrine Golden Temple in Amritsar, India — it sparked a diplomatic incident. And now, a lawsuit charging Leno and NBC with libel.

Dr. Randeep Dhillon of Bakersfield filed the suit today in Los Angeles Superior Court. On behalf of himself and Bol Punjabi All Regions Community Organization, the suit charges that the broadcast was libelous on its face and exposed Sikhs and their religion to hatred, contempt and ridicule because it portrayed the holiest place in the Sikh religion as a vacation resort owned by a non-Sikh.

The suit charges that Leno’s use of the photo of the temple was intentional, deliberately false and “hurt the sentiments of all Sikh people in addition to those of the plaintiff.” The suit seeks general, special and punitive damages as well as court costs. It appears that video of the segment in question has been removed from NBC’s website.

Separately, Sikh leader Dalbeg Singh said today community leaders would seek an apology from Leno. India’s foreign ministry said a formal complaint had been lodged with the State Department in Washington. From here:

The EXACT OPPOSITE of their previous declarations. Yes, and they'll continue their hopeless flail-a-thon endlessly thru time unless they are stopped by the ~~constitution~~ electorate.

That's right, and if you suffer because of it, well, that's just tough cookies. After all, they're only trying to do the "greater good," and don't you appreciate their great intentions? Hey, don't we all have to accept ~~continuous~~ some suffering to get to Utopia?

And what does all this have in common? Total incompetents manipulating the economy when they have no right to do so. SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - An armed robber was killed by a customer at an Upstate Waffle House early Saturday, according to Spartanburg County deputies.

The shooting happened at the Waffle House on Chesnee Highway just after 1:00 a.m.According to an incident report, two armed men entered the restaurant and tried to rob it.

A customer in the Waffle House, who is a concealed weapon permit holder, was also armed with a handgun and attempted to hold the suspects at gunpoint until law enforcement could arrive, deputies said.

Deputies said one of the robbery suspects pointed his gun at the customer, and the customer then shot the man, who died on the scene. More here:

I found an online betting spot that was giving 2-1 odds against the Newtster (winning the Republican nomination) so I had to take a little of that action ($20 curp.) I'm not convinced he's got a "great" chance but I think he has a chance. I won't say more than this ... I think Newt would be better than Romney.

They were also offering odds on any Republican of +$135. Upon researching that I found it meant that you could bet $25 but you would win $33.75 (or bet $100 and win $135.)

By the way, they were giving 5/1 against Newt winning the Presidency. 5/1?

Yes, my friends, you think the election of 2010 was a landslide? I predict Obama is going to take a whoopin' at the polls in November ... Obama and all the "Democratic" asshats which have been stealing my money and freedom for as long as I can remember under the guise of "helpin' the workin' man."

Ever notice they can't help you without stealing "just a little" of your money and freedom. And if they can't quite help you with that they just need a little bit more. But it's never enough, is it? So I was reading "Imprimus" today (as is my wont on a monthly basis) and the subject was "Do we need the Dept of Education?"

The article was adapted from a speech by Dr Charles Murray (if you haven't heard of him yet you probably soon will.) I say this because he has written a book, Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010, will be published at the end of January.

Ack! How racist does THAT sound? I don't suppose he did that on purpose ... you know ... to get the idiot media to cluck and flap like there's a fox in the yard and sell the CRAP out of his book?

The articles/speeches in Imprimus are generally fairly short ... ~~not long enough to make me go "Oh crap, I'm not reading this"~~ yet long enough to substantiate the premise.

Anyway, this part caught my attention:

The bachelor of arts degree as it has evolved over the last half-century has become the work of the devil. When the dean of one East Coast college is asked how many students are in his institution, he likes to answer, “Oh, maybe six or seven.” The situation at his college is not unusual. The degradation of American college education is not a matter of a few parents horrified at stories of silly courses, trivial study requirements, and campus binge drinking. So I was talking with a friend ... about how Rick Santorum actually won the Iowa caucuses instead of Romney. When all we've heard in the media is "Romney, Romney, Romney." Now that Santorum has won, do you think that you'll hear the media constantly harping his name? No? Gee, I wonder why that is.

Ahhhh yes, I deftly identified a perfect opportunity for me to look down my nose with a feeling of superiority (such a rarity for me /sarc) and to release some pejoratives about Iowans ... specifically "corn pone."

After laughing at the Corn-a-ponians I started to realize a couple of things:

1 - This hasn't as much to do with "Iowans" as "The Republican Party" which is probably in charge of this clusterf**k.

2 - Iowans would probably rather do their primary differently but guess what, I'd bet ninety percent of Americans would rather do their income taxes differently too and we see how much THAT means.

Dead Thieving Doofus

A man who police say was breaking into a home is dead after being shot by the homeowner.

It happened around 6:15 a.m. Thursday at a home on Woodland Avenue in Daytona Beach.Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood says the homeowner, 82-year-old Charles Robbins, was awakened by someone breaking into the back door. The homeowner armed himself with a .45 automatic and fire one shot through the door striking the man in the abdomen.

Police say the man, 24-year-old Tyler Orshoski of Holly Hill, was wearing a ski mask and gloves, and armed with a flashlight, screw driver and a hammer. Orshoski died at the scene. Robbins was not injured.

Police say they believe the homeowner acted within his rights. The investigation continues. From here:

I thought "I shall make the video but it might take me a long time ... no matter, this is important." And guess what, it turned out it WAS difficult to make because sometimes I had to listen to up to two minutes of video before a jackass uttered the phrase.

Now you people listen to me ... STOP USING THIS PHRASE ... YOU STOP IT RIGHT NOW. How in the hell did this get started? You can't turn on a news/talk program without hearing it in the first two minutes. It's like a race to see which nincompoop can lecture first.

Our weather models consider all of these factors and are currently showing a particularly harsh winter for many parts of the US during 2011-2012. Large parts of Central and North America will face below average temperatures with above average snowfall throughout this winter, with temperatures in many Eastern and Western parts also showing as below average with above average snowfall amounts.

We expect the Pacific Northwest region to experience a very severe winter and the Cascades snowpack is likely to see increased levels due to the negative (cold) phase of PDO. Our weather models are also showing an increased likelihood for major snow events in Northeastern and Midwestern parts of the US throughout December 2011 and January 2012, that could see severe blizzard conditions hit New York City and Chicago.

A rather extreme example of this third option emerged last month when an internationally renowned social psychologist, Diederik Stapel of Tilburg University in the Netherlands, was proved to be a fraud. No jokes, please: This social psychologist is a fraud in the literal, perhaps criminal, and not merely figurative, sense. The Department of Justice has broadened its definition of rape to lead to more comprehensive statistical reporting of the crime nationwide.

Vice President Biden, author of the Violence Against Women Act, also publicly supported the measure.

“Rape is a devastating crime, and we can’t solve it unless we know the full extent of it,” he wrote Friday in the DOJ statement.

Oh really, Biden? "We can't solve it, blah blah ...." So now we CAN solve it? Wow. And to think we've been unable to solve it just because of a few measly words in a legal definition. Finally, we can put this whole rape issue to rest ... it's solved ... you idiot.

The new definition of rape is: “The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim,” according to the DOJ.

The revised definition includes “any gender of victim or perpetrator, and includes instances in which the victim is incapable of giving consent because of temporary or permanent mental or physical incapacity, including due to the influence of drugs or alcohol or because of age,” the statement added. New phrase for a police report

Meet Melissa Lee Williams. The West Virginia woman, 41, is facing assault and weapons charges after allegedly waving a knife at two men who declined her demands to engage in sexual conduct at a motor inn.

The October 22 incident is detailed in an amusing/gross Jackson County Sheriff’s Department report excerpted here.

According to investigators, Williams--who lives four doors down from her estranged husband at the 77 Motor Inn--showed up at his door and asked Danny Williams and another man to “eat my pussy.”

At this point, Williams, pictured in the mug shot at right, “commenced to undress herself,” reported Deputy Ross Mellinger.

While Danny Williams “declined said invitation,” the other man, Adam Watson, told cops that he “agreed to perform at her request.” However, as Watson approached Williams, “he became overwhelmed by horrible vaginal odor emitting from Melissa Williams.”

Watson, understandably, “declined to proceed any further.”This is when Melissa Williams allegedly “produced a lock-back folding knife,” opened it, and pointed the weapon at her estranged husband. BLANCHARD, Oklahoma -Dustin Stewart called 911 after a home invasion ended in gunfire. Stewart told a dispatcher he fled the scene when his friend Justin Martin made his way into a Blanchard home.

"My name is Dusty Stewart and I think it was my friend that got shot." Stewart told the dispatcher, "I don't know what he was trying to do. I stood at the fence and told him to come on and I don't know what he did."

A mother inside the home pulled the trigger killing Justin Martin.

Now, the Grady County District Attorney's office is charging Dustin Stewart with murder.

Sarah McKinley, the mother of a three-month-old boy also in the home, spent several minutes on the phone with 911 before she shot and killed Martin.

McKinley told the dispatcher, "This guy is up to no good, my husband just passed away and I am here by myself with my infant baby." More with video of the mom here:

Somerset County District Attorney Jerry Spangler will not charge a man who fatally shot another man with a bow and arrow, saying today that changes in the state's Castle Doctrine factored into his decision.

Mr. Spangler said the unidentified 38-year-old Center City man who confessed to shooting Tony L. Bittinger on Oct. 10 claimed he did so in self-defense.

Mr. Bittinger was found shot through the chest with an arrow near the front steps to the man's house.

The Castle Doctrine was amended this summer to expand a homeowner's right to use deadly force against intruders, Mr. Spangler said.

The new Castle Doctrine expands a homeowner's "castle" to include porches and eliminates the owner's duty to retreat before attacking an intruder.

Mr. Spangler said the man might not have been charged under the old statute, but the new law "makes it much clearer" that the shooting was justified.

Trooper Joseph Drzal said Mr. Bittinger, who had been romantically involved with the man's wife, made several threatening phone calls to the man before driving up to his home to confront him. There, he threatened the man with a heavy wooden club.

The man told him to leave repeatedly. When Mr. Bittinger attempted to come up the stairs, the man shot him in the chest with an arrow. He died before first responders arrived. From here:

While Republicans secured inclusion of a measure blocking funding for enforcement of the standards in a year-end spending bill, energy efficiency groups say the provision will have little practical impact. The Energy Department rules will nonetheless go into effect at the start of 2012.

"The [spending bill] cut funding for enforcement, however the law is still in effect," said Jack Gillis, spokesman for the Consumer Federation of America. "It is our expectation that companies will still comply with the law."

(Reuters) - The White House plans to ask Congress by the end of the week for an increase in the government's debt ceiling to allow the United States to pay its bills on time, according to a senior Treasury Department official on Tuesday.

The approval is expected to go through without a challenge, given that Congress is in recess until later in January and the request is in line with an agreement to keep the U.S. government funded into 2013.

The debt is projected to fall within $100 billion of the current cap by December 30, when the United States has $82 billion in interest on its debt and payments such as Social Security coming due. President Barack Obama is expected to ask for authority to increase the borrowing limit by $1.2 trillion, part of the spending authority that was negotiated between Congress and the White House this summer.

Under the agreement struck in August during the showdown over the government's debt limit, the cap is automatically raised unless Congress votes to block the debt-ceiling extension. Lawmakers have 15 days within receiving the request to vote, which is largely symbolic because the president can veto it and Congress would be unlikely to muster the two-thirds majority to override it. Moreover, the U.S. House of Representatives also is in recess until January 17.

The deal called for raising the debt ceiling by $2.1 trillion to serve the nation's borrowing needs into 2013 and also included mandatory cuts to the federal budget deficit. Since then, the extension has been increased twice by a total of $900 billion.

The debt limit currently stands at $15.194 trillion and would increase to $16.394 trillion with the request.

Christmas "feel good" story

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man involved in a home invasion in Melbourne, Fla., was inadvertently shot by one of his accomplices who was trying to shoot the resident, police told the Orlando Sentinel Sunday.

Cops said 20-year-old Nathaniel James Clay broke in to a house in the 2800 block of Colbert Circle, about 70 miles southeast of Orlando, about 9:40pm Saturday, along with two other men.

The resident living at the property got into a fight with Clay, Central Florida News reported, with the accused struck several times with a baseball bat.

Oh, I hope he got him in the throat and nose with the bat ... please let his larynx be crushed ... oh, and the teeth, I hope he knocked his teeth completely out of his head.

Investigators said one of Clay's accomplices then tried to shoot the resident, but instead inadvertently shot Clay.

D'oh, woopsie daisy - I guess guns don't exactly work like in the movies, eh? LMAO!! Another story says he shot him several times in the lower extremities. I sure hope he didn't shoot his penis off, don't you?

Clay was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in the wake of the incident, while detectives were Sunday still hunting for his accomplices, who fled the scene.

ST. LOUIS – Matthew Quain still struggles to piece together what happened after a trip to the grocery store nearly turned deadly. He remembers a group of loitering young people, a dimly lit street -- then nothing. The next thing he knew he was waking up with blood pouring out of his head.

The 51-year-old pizza kitchen worker's surreal experience happened just before midnight earlier this year, when he became another victim of what is generally known as "Knockout King" or simply "Knock Out," a so-called game of unprovoked violence that targets random victims.

The rules of the game are as simple as they are brutal. A group -- usually young men or even boys as young as 12, and teenage girls in some cases -- chooses a lead attacker, then seeks out a victim. Unlike typical gang violence or other street crime, the goal is not revenge, nor is it robbery. The victim is chosen at random, often a person unlikely to put up a fight. Many of the victims have been elderly. Most were alone.

The attacker charges at the victim and begins punching. If the victim goes down, the group usually scatters. If not, others join in, punching and kicking the person, often until he or she is unconscious or at least badly hurt. Sometimes the attacks are captured on cellphone video that is posted on websites.

"These individuals have absolutely no respect for human life," St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said.

Hey, I know, let's start a game of our own ... we'll call it "Kill violent shitstain criminals very fast." And this mayor would be a natural to start it ... with his great last name "Slay."

Slay knows firsthand. He was on his way home from a theater around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 when he saw perhaps a dozen young people casually crossing a street. He looked to the curb and saw Quain sprawled on the pavement.

Slay told his driver to pull over. They found Quain unconscious, blood pouring from his head and mouth.

Quain was hospitalized for two days with a broken jaw, a cracked skull and nasal cavity injuries. He still has headaches and memory problems but was finally able to return to work earlier this month. Hundreds gathered in November for a fundraiser at the restaurant where he works, Joanie's Pizza, but he still doesn't know how he'll pay the medical bills.

It isn't clear how long Knockout King has been around, nor is the exact number of attacks known. The FBI doesn't track it separately, but Slay said he has heard from several mayors about similar attacks and criminologists agree versions of the game are going on in many places.

St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom said the city has had about 10 Knockout King attacks over the past 15 months.

Experts say it is a grab for attention.

Really? Is that what "experts say?" And what ISN'T a grab for attention these days? I have stopped ~~caring~~ pretending to care about the reasons for violent behavior.

I just want the violent people to:

1 - Suffer the same/equivalent fate/pain as their victims (times two or three.)

2 - Be removed from the presence of other humans ... with increasing periods of separation each time they engage in this behavior (i.e. initiating the use of force on other people.) No, they cannot go "on the yard" while in prison ... I said separated from other humans, period. In other words, make prison a place they do NOT want to go, instead of being like old home week with their compadres.

3 - Be executed within 90 days after their trial for maiming or murder (or attempt at same) -- or after their third violent offense, (armed robbery etc) whichever comes first.

That's right, I'm not interested in paying to have them "rehabilitated.." Nor am I interested in whether they learn their lesson ... it would be nice if they did but that's not a huge concern to me.

"We know that juveniles don't think out consequences clearly," said Beth Huebner, an associate professor of criminology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. "They see something on YouTube and say, `I want to get that sort of attention, too.' They don't think about the person they're attacking maybe hitting their head."

"It's adolescent and early adults, largely male, showing how tough they are. It's done to show off," Decker said.

Earlier this year in Chicago, a group of teens followed an elderly homeless man at a train station. One of the teens walked up to him and punched him in the face, knocking him out as the teen's friends laughed and mocked the man. The exchange was captured on video and posted on a hip-hop site, where it got about a quarter of a million views within two days. ACKWORTH, Ga. - Some Georgia parents who have been struggling to buy gifts for their kids this Christmas got some last-minute help from Secret Santas. Dozens of families whose layaway accounts have been in jeopardy have been told that anonymous donors gave them quite a gift.

It’s a Secret Santa trend taking hold across the country, including here in metro Atlanta. Anonymous donors have been paying off customers’ layaway accounts, and now it’s happened at a Walmart store in Cherokee County.

“A week and a half ago, our first person came in and wanted to be a Secret Santa and pay off someone's layaway,” said store manager Robert Finch.

Finch says more than $3,000 has been paid off on layaway accounts in the last 10 days alone. Typically, Finch says donors come into the store and request to pay on an account that has toys and may be delinquent. They notify the customers, most times immediately, and they say the news is often shocking to the lucky recipients. From here:

Assuming that this is "the whole truth," (and I doubt very seriously that it is) why payoff delinquent accounts and disregard the people who have paid on time? I mean, I see the sentiment behind it but I think it is misplaced. It also may be sending the wrong message for future years ... i.e. if you want a chance to get free stuff, just put it on layaway and don't make the payments ... you know .. like a lottery ... a lottery where the store has to pay the storage costs and manage the inventory for a couple of months ... cuz that's free, right?

It actually occurred to me that the store may be making a minimum payment on delinquent accounts (and alerting the media) in order to guilt the "recipients" into picking the payments back up and making them feel they have more to lose now that they are further invested in this thing. Probably not true of course but that's just the cynic in the back of my mind ... you know ... the thing that distinguishes me from ~~idiot-libs~~ total dupe-niks.

I suggest ignoring whether or not the account is late ... just pick a random account (with toys, if you insist) that has a balance you can afford and pay it off ... or some of it ... or whatever.

And another thing ... I'm just a regular moron off the street and yet I know this almost instinctively ... without having to give it much thought at all ... just the basic "don't reward bad behavior or you'll get more of it." December 21, 2011: Maricopa County Sheriff's Office immigration jail officers who lost their federal power to check whether inmates are in the county illegally, turn in their credentials after federal officials pulled the Sheriff's office immigration enforcement powers in Phoenix.

PHOENIX – Dozens of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's jail officers lined up at a news conference in Phoenix Wednesday to ceremoniously hand in their federal credentials a week after they were stripped of the ability to verify the immigration status of inmates.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Dec. 15 that more than 90 of Arpaio's Maricopa County jail officers could no longer check whether inmates were in the county illegally.

The decision followed the release of a scathing Department of Justice report that said Arpaio's office has a pattern of racially profiling Latinos, basing immigration enforcement on racially charged citizen complaints and punishing Hispanic jail inmates for speaking Spanish.

Aren't you proud? I mean, after all, we can't be letting some elected sheriff run around enforcing the law now can we? Of course not, that would be illogical. That's what I love about idiot-libs ... always so reasoned and logical.

Homeland Security's decision wasn't the first time Arpaio's federal immigration powers were cut.

In October 2009, Immigration and Customs Enforcement stripped Arpaio of his power to let 100 deputies make federal immigration arrests, but still allowed his jail officers to determine the immigration status of people in jail.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Hamburg Inn in Iowa City has long been a popular stop for presidential candidates, but it probably won't be high on Rep. Michele Bachmann's list anymore.

About two dozen activists with Occupy Iowa City packed the diner before Bachmann arrived Thursday, then loudly chanted in unison as she tried to mingle with supporters. Their chant blasted the Minnesota congresswoman's position on gay rights, health care and taxes and ended with: "You're not wanted here. So go, just go."

The restaurant's manager says the campaign blared Christmas songs over a sound system to drown out the protesters. Police arrived as tensions rose, but no one was arrested.

Bachmann seemed undeterred. Before leaving, she thanked the owner, praised the food and said it was great to be in Iowa City.

OK, first of all, it's not "Ching and Chong" it's "Cheech and Chong." Sheesh. If you read the article you'll find that Kelvin Lee (the friend of the customers) is very smart, reasonable, and practical about the whole thing ... i.e. obviously not an idiot-lib.

Secondly, "under fire for being openly Christian???" What does that mean? Are these groups "under fire" for being openly stupid? Is the Times "under fire" for including stupidity such as this in their "objective reports?"

I love how they include "the Times notes." Yes, they "note" it to help you learn ... you know ... so you'll have all the relevant AND irrelevant facts. The Times would never want you to go without knowing the WHOLE STORY, right, Times?

This is what I love about libs ... they think the government should be "doing stuff ... getting stuff done." And why do they think this way? Because the media tells them to, that's why? They don't even stop to think that maybe it isn't the government's business to be "doing stuff." They think if the government isn't "doing stuff" then it's somehow a bad thing.

Meanwhile, who, in their right mind, wants 536 morons in Washington DC "doing stuff?" It seems that Hugo Chavez recent offered some sage advice to presdink Owe-bama.

Chávez’s comments came in the wake of Obama’s Monday written interview with the Caracas paper El Universal, where the U.S. president questioned Venezuela’s connections to those countries. Chávez hit back strongly at Obama on state TV Monday, according to The Guardian, saying the president gave the interview only to “win votes” in the 2012 election.

“Mr. Obama decided to attack us,” Chávez said. “Now you want to win votes by attacking Venezuela. Don’t be irresponsible. You are a clown, a clown. Leave us in peace … Go after your votes by fulfilling that which you promised your people.”

FREDERICKSBURG, Ohio (AP) -- A man cleaning his muzzle-loading rifle shot the gun into the air, accidentally killing a 15-year-old Amish girl driving a horse-drawn buggy more than a mile away, a sheriff said Tuesday.

Rachel Yoder was shot in the head Thursday night while traveling to her home in Wayne County, between Columbus and Akron. She had attended a Christmas party for employees, most of them under 18 years old, at an Amish produce farm and was riding home alone when she was shot, Wayne County sheriff's Capt. Douglas Hunter said.

The horse continued to cart the girl after she was shot, and she fell out of the buggy near her home, Holmes County Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly said. Her brother found her after he saw the horse walking in circles and went to check it. Authorities initially believed she had fallen out of the buggy and hit her head until a hospital test revealed the gunshot wound.

Hunter said his department traced a trail of blood along the road for about three-eighths of a mile into Holmes County in an area of farms and rolling hills.

Zimmerly said the gun-cleaner's family came forward and his neighbors reported hearing a shot at about the time the girl was wounded.

The man had fired the gun in the air about 1.5 miles from where Yoder was shot, Zimmerly said. State investigators were checking the rifle for a ballistics match, he said.

"In all probability, it looks like an accidental shooting," Zimmerly said.

As far as I'm concerned they can take that reckless asshole and jail him for the rest of his life. Anyone who would take such a chance ... recklessly risking the LIVES of other people, needs to be in jail and watched over like the idiot he is ... for life. People like that don't "learn lessons." Otherwise the little girl wouldn't be DEAD right now.
